One Complaint

This heated house is great. My only complaint is that only about half of the floor is heated. If a cat is using this house it means it's cold outside, and they want to be warm. It would be better if the heating pad covered the whole thing. The outdoor cat that I got it for doesn't use it in the warm weather, he prefers to sleep out in the open.

My cat refuses to use it, currently just wasting electricity.

We're so sorry to hear that your cat will not use the product. Try taking the plastic doors off the house, then place a few cat treats or dry cat food inside the house. This can sometimes help your cat get more comfortable with the new house. If that does not work and you purchased the product on the K&H website, please contact our customer service department to see if you are eligible for a full refund.

These outdoor, heated homes are so critical for felines (and others) who are in the cold. We have purchased a number of these, and we applaud K&H for these necessary and compassionate products.

Great heated shelter for our ferals

We've had the product for only a few weeks, so I can't speak to its longevity, but other K&H products have lasted well. Setup was easy, especially as the instructions were clear. Having the 2 doors simplified the process because I could reach inside to make sure that the parts were properly connected via the hook & loop fastenings. Our feral cat didn't hesitate at all to start using it! We've had a little snow, and it was simple to brush it off. The shelter is on a roofed porch and I set up straw bales so that it's well protected from wind to the north and east (the shelter's door faces the house on the west, which is a fine windbreak, and I can check on the cat from inside the house). I set up the shelter on a 2-inch thick piece of Styrofoam for insulation from cold air coming between the boards on the porch. We're experiencing a cold snap at the moment, so I covered the roof and the most unprotected side with an insulated pad (one side with a door doesn't have the additional covering). The feral cat is clearly very happy with this warm shelter. With luck, the cat will become more accustomed to us over the next few months, so that it can be handled (and taken to the vet to be neutered and vaccinated) and then sufficiently socialized for adoption or relocation to a farm with a colony of barn cats.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review! It’s wonderful to hear that the setup was easy and that your feral cat is already making good use of the shelter. It sounds like you’ve gone above and beyond to create the perfect cozy, protected space for them—what a great setup! We’re so glad the shelter is keeping the cat warm during this cold snap. We’re rooting for you and the cat on this journey, and we hope that with time, the little one becomes more socialized and ready for their next adventure. Thanks for trusting us to help provide a safe and warm haven for the kitty!

I have 3 feral cats that live in my carport. I made a couple tote in tote with straw beds but I live in Montana so decided to get this too. Didn't take them long to start using it!

That’s so wonderful to hear! Your feral cats are lucky to have such a caring person looking out for them, especially in those cold Montana winters. We’re glad they’re using it and staying warm! Thanks for sharing!

These houses are a great value. And they are washable. I covered mine on the outside with a quilted packing blanket that movers use for extra protection . The heated cushion inside saves cats during the winter. Way to put together and pack away for the summer. A good value for the prices. The only think I would like to see is ticker insulation on the roof and sides.

Thank you for your thoughtful review! We're so glad to hear that the houses are working well for you and that the heated cushion is keeping your cats warm during the winter. We love your creative idea of using a quilted packing blanket for extra protection! We appreciate your suggestion about thicker insulation for the roof and sides, and we’ll definitely take it into consideration for future designs. Thanks again for your feedback and for choosing our product!
Marketing and instructions contradict themselves

Just received this and after reading the instructions am disappointed. This is marketed as an outdoor shelter but the included instructions say to keep out of direct rain and snow. So this is really not intended for outdoors, it must be used in a sheltered area. Not as marketed on packaging or on website. I wanted to provide shelter for a feral cat without fear of electrocuting one.
1 reply from K&H Customer Service team - 5 months ago
Thank you for your feedback, Kerry, and we apologize for any confusion. The instructions you mentioned are specifically for the heated pad included with the house. They indicate that the pad should only be used in a sheltered area. The house itself serves as the shelter referenced in the heated pad instructions.

It's great and easy to setup but i bought it specifically for heat for my outdoor feral in winter. Unfortunately the pad doesnt work.
1 reply from K&H Customer Service team - 5 months ago
Will, we're sorry to hear your pad did not work. Keep in mind our heated beds are designed to only feel warm to the touch when your pet is lying on the pad. To text your pad, simply place a pillow on top of the pad, and after about 20 minutes feel under the pillow. The heat will be a mild heat, not hot. If you still find that your heated pad is not working, please contact our customer service department at 1-877-738-5188 and we'll be happy to exchange your heated cat bed.

This is the 2nd one I have purchased. The 1st was for a stray cat that stayed in our yard but needed shelter. She is now our fur baby. That house is now out in her catio! I just purchased another one for a second stray. We are in Colorado so we have to have a heated house. Love this house!!

I already own 2-2 story green insulated outdoor houses. The feral cats I feed sleep inside and the heated pad with cover protects them from the weather & predators. They have two entrances/exits in case a predator enters. Many raccoons travel in packs & will kill cats. I do not put any food inside as predators will be attracted. I have the house on my deck under the rave and awning. It is on a Bluetooth/remote or if within my home WiFi range, can use a smart outdoor plug with app on mobile phone. Schedules can be set to turn on/off per schedule to save $. Low wattage so not much wattage and safe for animals.

I’m happy with this purchase. The setup was super easy. The quality seems good. We have it on our covered front porch for some feral kitties. I love how it’s easy to open one side of the top which is attached by Velcro to set a small container of food inside to attract the cats. We have one side a few inches away from the wall and left the door flap off that side.

I have the regular sized house and my two boys love it. When my evil neighbor moved this Fall and abandoned his FIVE Siamese, I decided to add to my patio until I can decide what to do. This house is the same A-1 quality of the smaller version. I thought the heating pad would be the same, but I was surprised to see a plush full-sized pad. Quality!

I have to admit, I was concerned about the hook and loop system. I'll say, don't worry. It is very sturdy, well built. Seems well insulated also. Very impressed with the house.

My four previous purchases of the heated houses were not the extra wide but I was equally as happy with them as I am the extra-wide version. They are easy to assemble and my outdoor cats use them consistently. I love knowing my cats have a warm place to get in out of the weather.

I bought this yesterday for my barn cat and she absolutely loves it. So much so she she'll barely leave her new house. The house was easy to assemble and it's very well made. The roof fabric is thick, the inside fleece padding is substantial, and the electric cord is a generous length. This is a quality product that I'll definitely recommend, and I look forward to purchasing other K&H products.

I live in North Pole Alaska. We have a feral cat that has taken up residence with us for the past five years. I think it is a she. She doesn’t tolerate handling. She lose an ear a year ago when the temperature dropped to 40 below. This outdoor cat house seems to be a great option for her. It was super easy to assemble. She took to it immediately.
