This is a very light duty rug as described per shipping weight. Consequently, it requires a rug pad. It has directionality - one way is very white appearing and the other more taupe. There are raised threads that are shiny and a little brighter gold and blue. It has a rolled thread edge. I hoped the colors would be good for our room but the different appearance depending on your viewing direction and the shiny threads didn't work for us.
