Q: Does this product have chemicals that are absorbed into the bloodstream?
A: Consumer safety is Banana Boat’s number one priority. As such, we take all of our consumer's concerns seriously. Sunscreens are supported by excellent safety records based on decades of real-world use, and all of the active ingredients Banana Boat uses in its products are approved for use internationally as well. While the FDA has released study results about the absorption of ingredients through the skin and into the body, this does not mean the product cannot be used safely for protection against UV rays. The FDA and leading medical experts, as well as Banana Boat, support continued use of sunscreens for broad spectrum protection (UVA/UVB), given the totality of available evidence that sunscreens are safe for use. As a sun care brand, we also want to encourage everyone to protect their skin from the damaging effects of the sun with safe, quality products. However, we understand that everyone has different preferences when it comes to sun care, which is why Banana Boat is committed to offering a wide range of products including 100% mineral, mineral-enriched, and non-mineral products in lotion, spray and stick forms across our product lines. As always, Edgewell Personal Care supports research that broadens our understanding of the active ingredients that are used in sunscreen and that advance the body of evidence supporting the safe and effective use of sun care. We will continue to work with the FDA to ensure we’re providing consumers with smart choices for sun protection.
