After almost ten years of marriage, Mariah and Malcolm have a good life. It feels like nothing is missing . . . except lately, Mariah is wondering why her husband often comes home with a lingering scent of perfume on him. Adding to her growing sense of discomfort, Mariah receives devastating news about her health. She learns that she will never be able to bear a child.

Mariah's best friend Crystal has complicated feelings about Malcolm. Part of her longs to be touched by him again, to rekindle the passion she's felt for him since high school. But mostly, she's suspicious of Malcolm's commitment to his wife because she saw Malcolm kissing another woman the night before his wedding. Since then, she hasn't trusted him, and although her husband warns her to leave well enough alone, she can't help herself.

Shortly before his tenth anniversary, Malcolm receives some uncomfortable news that changes everything. After carrying on an affair for years, he is trying to end things with Eva to save his marriage. However, it might be too late, because Eva reveals that she's pregnant with his child, and she has no intention of letting him walk away from his responsibility. Feeling like he has no choice, Malcolm goes home and tells his wife the truth--or at least part of it.

These characters are quickly caught up in a tangled web of deceit, distrust, and misguided passions. When tragedy strikes and someone ends up dead, things only get more complicated.
