About the Book

Lord Yates Fairfax, leader of the secretive Imposters, is pulled into a mysterious case by the beautiful Lady Alethia. Joined by one of his oldest friends, Lady Lavinia, their investigations reveal society's darkest secrets, forcing them to confront the unsettling reality that the gentry isn't always noble, and truth isn't always honorable.

Book Synopsis

In the trying art of balancing investigations and love, a detective must determine his priorities when faced with dangerous circumstances that could threaten everything he holds dear.

As the leader of the Imposters, an elite private investigative firm, Lord Yates Fairfax has made an art of concealing his identity. But when his newest client, the beautiful Lady Alethia Barremore, is shot while leaving their meeting, he throws caution to the wind and rushes to her aid. Though Lady Alethia thought she was only looking for her missing former nanny, she has clearly stumbled upon something much more dangerous.

Lady Lavinia Hemming suspects her longtime friends hold more secrets than they're willing to admit, and when she stumbles upon the truth that they're the esteemed Imposters, she recruits herself into the firm. While she is happy for the distraction of an investigation, Lavinia's own family secrets continue to haunt her. And the one thing bringing laughter back into her life--her friendship with Yates--lands her squarely on the disagreeable side of her best friend: his sister.

Tormented by a past she doesn't dare voice aloud, Lady Alethia does what she can to help her handsome host, her new friends, and the investigators. But as clues lead them deeper into the dark side of society, Alethia, Yates, and Lavinia learn anew that the gentry isn't always noble . . . even as they fight to hold fast to their own honor.

"With characters believable and unique, and a pace that builds suspense as the story unfolds, each thread is so compelling I couldn't stop turning pages."
--LORI BENTON, bestselling author on A Noble Scheme

A Satisfying Conclusion!

The Imposters has been a fantastic series, and this final story is an amazing conclusion. New characters are introduced, previous characters return, and the special investigative team known as The Imposters has never been better! Lord Yates Fairfax is finally given a chance to shine in this riveting tale that sheds a strong light on good versus evil. A disturbing twist involving two young women mirrors the worst of mankind, but author Roseanna M. Wright never allows the plot to become sordid or unacceptable to her readers. Yes, danger and deception is present but there's also the promise of hope, light, and redemption. An Honorable Deception is set in England in 1910. and White's descriptive powers have never been better! I loved seeing Yates and Lavinia together again, but will a new client of the Imposters be the one who captures his heart? White has woven romance, faith, and mystery together into a mesmerizing story that makes me sad to say goodbye to this series! This book can be read as a standalone, but I predict that once you read it, you will be eager to read the other books also! An Honorable Deception is a must-read for fans of historical Christian romance! I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review.

I recently finished An Honorable Deception, the final book in Roseanna M. White's The Imposters series, and while I’m sad to see the series come to an end, it was an incredible conclusion. In this book, we finally get the story of the greatest imposter of them all—Lord Yates Fairfax. He is undeniably swoon-worthy: strong, honorable, kind, and carved from marble handsome. His quest for truth and justice truly highlights his character. The dynamic between Yates and Lady Lavinia Hemming is complicated, shaped by broken hearts and past regrets. And when Lady Alethia Barremore enters the scene, Yates find that she is someone he could give his heart too, adding even more complexity to his relationships. I love when authors bring characters from their other books onto the scene and in An Honorable Deception your sure to see some familiar characters adding to the charm of this book. The end of this series offers an engaging mix of mystery, suspense, complex characters, and sweet romance. The chemistry between Yates and Lavinia, especially the palpable tension between them, makes for an unforgettable read. White’s exceptional writing shines as she weaves historical detail and faith into a gripping narrative. Her characters are deeply human, with both flaws and virtues that make them relatable and engaging. What sets this book apart is White's fearless approach to difficult topics, such as human trafficking. While this subject matter can make the story harder to read, it’s handled with sensitivity and care. White doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of the issue, but she balances the darkness with themes of hope and redemption, making it emotionally impactful. With An Honorable Deception, Roseanna M. White proves once again that she is a brilliant storyteller.

Deep Theme

In An Honorable Deception Roseanna M. White tackles a difficult theme, the purpose of pain and suffering, with tenderness and great insight. Through the sorrows of Lady Lavinia and Lady Alethia, and how they each handle them, White demonstrates in which manner one is drawn closer to Christ, and in which one is left feeling isolated and alone. This theme sets a tone for the book that is a bit more serious than the first two books in the series as the case the Imposters have taken on is very dark and the victims are victimized to a greater degree. Readers are encouraged by how shining light into the dark corners can bring both justice and restoration. In classic Roseanna M. White style, the weight of this story is occasionally relieved by the lighthearted acts and banter among the Imposters. I highly encourage readers to read The Imposters series in order to achieve the greatest enjoyment of this marvelous series. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of An Honorable Deception from Bethany House via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Excellent! The talented pen of author Roseanna M White drew me into this completely captivating story of dangerous secrets and new clients, with the Imposters run by Yates (Lord Yates Fairfax), his sister Lady Marigold Fairfax Livingstone, her husband Sir Merritt Livingstone, and Gemma & Graham Wharton. I loved every minute of it! What a fantastic end of the series, I could not put it down. An Honorable Deception has a compelling mix of historical fiction, danger, mystery, (loved the research that led to more clues), women and children in terrible situations, people with a heart to help, good friends, humor, romance, and depth. I enjoyed seeing the circus friends who have been with the Fairfax family since the beginning. I loved the plot twist with bringing in key characters from a different series in such a perfect way! Yates meets with their newest client, Lady Alethia Barremore, who is shot while leaving their meeting. He wisks Lady Alethia to his country estate where Lady Lavinia Hemming is keeping his sister Marigold company. It was fun to have two women leads (Lady Alethia & Lady Lavinia), who have many similarities, and to watch their journeys unfold, to watch them find their path and purpose. Yates is such a handsome and loveable character and it was great to see his character growth. I highly recommend binge reading this entire Imposters series in order, you will not be able to put them down! Each story has mystery, danger, and good friends who help each other overcome past hurts and find healing in placing their trust in God.
