They are chunky and also wider than expected (big enough that you can sit sideways on the chair comfortably). They're sturdy feeling and nicer in person. I struggled a little with the screws in the legs, but it's not a deal breaker. Overall - great purchase!

We ordered three of these. We are actually very picky but did end up keeping these despite a couple of minor complaints. First the positives are they are very solid, the antique black is slightly distressed, and the depth of the seat is very adequate. The position of the footrest is also very good and they are quite comfortable. They are, however, quite "chunky" looking and even more so than the pictures let on. They almost look like they belong in a cabin. The main complaint we have is the legs on all three of them are slightly uneven. We probably would have returned them for that reason but the price was good so we decided to live with it. Hope this helps.
