Q: Which shelves are adjustable? Need to store record albums on bottom shelves. Is that space more than 12 inches high?
submitted by Pops - 1 year ago
A: The two upper shelves are adjustable. The height for the lower portion is 12-1/4", the upper portion will be smaller than 12" if both shelves are utilized.

Q: It is made of solid wood?
submitted by Potential Buyer - 1 year ago
A: Sauder products are manufactured with engineered wood. This is a combination of hard and soft wood bound together with resin. A paper laminate is then applied.

Super cute- purchased 2 of them. Easy to put together- great instructions. Did one by hand and one with a drill. A drill definitely makes it go faster.

Assembly instructions easy to follow. I actually purchased 2 for my study. These bookcases are very sturdy and tolerant of my heavy books. Highly recommend this model if you need horizontal case.
Disappointed.

It looks like the picture but it’s difficult to assemble. Putting together furniture is not new for me, sadly, but this was a PAIN. Half way through I wanted to return it, but because its particle board and heavy taking it apart would have been just as bad. Won’t make this mistake again.

I've been looking for over a year in thrift stores, antique shops, garage sales for a horizontal bookcase. I'd really rather not have to buy new, but when I saw this, I decided to purchase. It is exactly what I was looking for. Assembly was straightforward and the instructions were clear. As the carton was too heavy for me to carry upstairs, I opened it and carried the pieces up and laid them in a different room, to inspect, inventory and organize. I assembled it by myself in the room I'm using it in. It took part of an afternoon … the only tedious part was nailing on the backing. I love putting things together and this was no exception. There were exactly enough pieces of hardware and all the wood is solid and in good condition. The remainder of the afternoon I spent filling it, thereby emptying out two smaller bookcases which I then passed along to others.

Purchased for our son's room to display his ""treasures"". This shelf is the perfect size to accommodate all of his items with room to add. Arrived quickly & in perfect condition. My husband was able to put this together with ease. Shelf is very solid & is appealing.

Full disclosure: I was enticed to make both purchases because of ""inflation buster"" sales. The cubby storage unit is a strong and sturdy piece of furniture. The prime oak has a very appealing rustic look - I had to double check to make sure that the cracks in the design were part of the design and not actual cracks. Like any of these cam-based assembly items, putting it together is going to take you a few hours and a fair amount of patience - it can be done by one person even though the finish product is about 100 lbs. I was pleased to see that all the component parts were well-packaged and the instructions were reasonably easy to follow. The only thing that may be a problem for some who are strictly using this as a bookshelf is that you can only use three of the four shelves for textbook size books due to the placement of the fixed shelf (one up from the bottom shelf) - The best I could do with the heights of the shelves were (from the top) 10"", 9. 5"", 6"", 12"" - so three of these shelves were suitable for upright book storage and I filled the short shelf with books laid flat. Still overall a very nice, sturdy, functional piece of furniture. This won't be the last Sauder item I purchase.

Uses to store books and research materials. Only bottom shelf loaded and the POS sags in the center causing the frame to separate. Yes, the center plastic footing was installed.

It works well in the space for a book case. However, the color in the picture on line was different than the one I got. It works and was too heavy to return. The one I thought I was getting was a darker color.

I bought this item as an entryway piece, to be a place for books and family pictures etc. I was very impressed at how well the item was made, no I don't mean my assembly, I mean the manufacturing quality. This is my fourth self-assembly purchase of Sauder furniture and all have been excellent quality, the bookcase is the perfect size and looks great. I was surprised to get four adjustable shelves to add to the fixed shelves, I don't think that I will ever use more than two of them. The instructions for assembly are pretty good, but it would be wise to review them before wading in and getting started. I didn't and so had to reverse the fitting of two pieces, my error. The bookcase looks great and is very nicely finished, the pieces are well made and fit together precisely. There are no spare parts, so don't lose any! That said, a call to customer service will help you out without fuss or drama, the customer services department of Sauder is great. I am happy to give my full recommendation of Sauder and Sauder products, I will definitely buy more from them, you won't be disappointed and the price is great considering the quality of the items.

i was looking for a 48 inch wide book case to put miniatures on in my table top game room. this was bigger than i needed but being wider and taller allowed to get more games out of the closet and visible. So i bought two of them and they fit perfectly in my space on each wall around the gaming table. the bottom fixed shelf just the right size for RPG manuals and such. i've had a Sauder cabinet and entertainment center for 30 years never had any sagging issues and i moved them several times . Suader product is very sturdy and long lasting. the color will even match the vinyl floor plank i will lay down in this room
Nice design but room for improvement.

This is a well thought out cabinet that my wife will take great pleasure in her art nook off our living room. Unfortunately the bottom fixed shelves marked M and N turned out to be both Ns, causing the optional reversible patten to be wood grain showing on one side and the burlap grain on the other. It took me a while to realize that all the offset side hole locations on both pieces were identical to each other instead of mirror images. This problem could be easily solved by deliberately making both shelves identical with no offset holes. Then you could manufacture one piece to fit either side, and with reversible pattern. In the interest of time, I opted to put the wrong shelf in, with cam lock dowels showing on top and wrong pattern as well. Since this shelf is free standing with light weight art materials on it, and because its separating an art work nook, and will serve as a barrier wall to computer desk on the back side, I also decided to nail the back on with the wood grain finish showing out. If the back nail on piece had wood grain on both sides, this shelf would also be better able to be used as a decorative space divider, and not just a wall mount. I also put stick-on foot pads on the corner and center support legs, so the unit can be easily slid without floor damage.
