This rug is really rough for an area rug, better to use it for outdoor, if it holds up. Due to the price, I threw it in the wash and hoped for the best. This is the review to answer your question, do not machine wash it! Took off the backing, and shrunk it by a square-foot ish. The backing washing off made it never lay flat again and lift ripple at the smallest force. Stick to spot cleaning, though spot cleaning never made it feel like it was clean enough as the rough texture really picked up and stuck every spec of dirt and dust on! Overall, I'd buy it again and take better care of there was a nicer pattern, the price makes it worth the hassle of the better care in my opinion.
