For this trunk, it has what we call "Stay Open Safety Hinges" which essentially allows it to not slam onto your fingers since the hinge can manually lock giving you the option to decide how long it is open for. I was looking for a toy box that I could put in my living room. This was an excellent size and looks nice! Also, it’s light so my 2 yr old can easily lift the the top and reach in for the toys. The top will also stay up without slamming down. I liked that it didn’t require setup so I could take it out of the box and set it out right away.

A few things to note about this trunk: 1 - It is not brown as the picture depicts. It is black. 2 - It arrived with a light dusting of mold on the bottom (which is made of pressboard so the humidity on the container ship creates it). I cleaned outside and will take the bottom off to clean the parts under the structure of the trunk. 3 - I would return it because it wasn't cheap (over $100) but it is the size I need so even though I don't like the color nor the fact that it wasn't clean I don't want to deal with having to try and get it in my car and to Target then wait on line to return this time of year (holiday season). So I would just recommend if you are looking for something like this to try to find one in a store so you can what it is like before you buying.
