Q: Why do these paper towels smell like burnt tires when wet or damp? They smell so toxic, I can't use them in the kitchen. I think you have contaminants in the manufacturing process.
A: We store these paper towels in the food pantry, not near cleaners. I use a wet paper towel to clean up lunch-prep spills, usually spices. I end up smelling only whatever spice the towel picked up.

BPA is found in thermal paper like receipts, that are often accidentally mixed in with paper sent to recycling, which these are made from. If you're not verifying your recycled paper content is BPA free, then I'd hazard a guess it likely isn't.

Q: were these processed with formaldehyde?
A: Hello Tori - We appreciate your interest and concern with this product. We do not intentionally add formaldehyde to our products. It may be helpful to know that formaldehyde occurs naturally in wood. Since formaldehyde is highly soluble in water and due also to its low boiling point, it is likely that formaldehyde may be present only at trace levels in the paper.
