A: Yes this fits vinyl records. If you put the 2 horizontal adjustable shelves in the middle position, each of the 4 cubes measure about 13¼" x 13¼" x 13¼", which fit 12" records perfectly. I have all my records in outer sleeves, and each cube will fit about 75 records, so that's like 300 total. I've bought 2 of these in maple so far specifically for record storage.

A: We use three of these without the back panel. You do lose some lateral stability, but we've had them for years and they work perfectly fine for normal adult use. I wouldn't use it that way if you have young kids who might be more likely to push and pull at it.
