Book Synopsis
A must-read that belongs in every home and classroom, A Day With No Words invites readers into the life of an Autism Family who communicates just as the child does, without spoken language. This colorful and engaging picture book for young readers shares what life can look like for families who use nonverbal communication, utilizing tools to embrace their unique method of "speaking." The story highlights the bond between mother and child and follows them on a day where they use a tablet to communicate with others. Written by an autistic mother of two autistic sons and the creator behind the popular @Fidgets.and.Fries social media platform and illustrated by Kate Cosgrove (IG @k8cosgrove), A Day With No Words successfully normalizes communication methods outside of verbal speech and provides representation of neurodiversity and autism in a way that affirms and celebrates. The experts are raving! "How lucky are we to finally get Tiffany's poignant words and message into children's hands through this impactful story. Children and families can now be touched by her brilliance and learn about the often-overlooked autistics who communicate differently. The importance of A Day With No Words cannot be overstated in its potential to expose readers, young and old alike, to the beauties and barriers of living the autistic experience." -- Ali Cunningham Abbott, PhD, LMHC, author of Counseling Adults with Autism: A Comprehensive Toolkit "Through A Day with No Words, Tiffany Hammond provides us a rare window to the non-speaking world of autism. She has done so with love, compassion, and, I believe, deep understanding. And Kate Cosgrove's illustrations make it a beautiful world indeed. Bravo and thank you to both Hammond and Cosgrove for this window!" -- Samantha S. Supernaw, LCSW-S, Licensed Therapist & Clinical Supervisor "In my past 20 years as a developmental pediatrician, I have never read anything quite like A Day With No Words, a book that so eloquently, lyrically, and vividly captures the essence and beauty of an autistic mind. This book is a gift to all who read it." -- Wendy J. Ross, MD, Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Developmental Pediatrician, Associate Professor Jefferson University, Director Jefferson Health Center for Autism and Neurodiversity About the Author: Tiffany Hammond (she/her) is the voice behind the Fidgets and Fries platform. She is an Autistic mother, advocate, and storyteller who uses her personal experiences with Autism and parenting two Autistic boys to guide others on their journey. Tiffany has a Masters in Developmental Psychology and spends her time teaching, coaching, and mentoring others in Disability Justice issues. Her activism is rooted in challenging the current perception of Autism as a lifelong burden, cultivating a community that explores the concept of Intersectionality and inspiring thought leaders through storytelling, education, and critical discourse.Dimensions (Overall): 11 Inches (H) x 8.5 Inches (W) x .15 Inches (D)

Such a beautiful book, both visually thanks to the fantastic illustrations by Kate Cosgrove and in the story itself, as Tiffany Hammond has such a way with words. I am so excited to share this book with the kids at my preschool as often as possible!

You need to check out this book! It is stunning, from the illustrations of Kate Cosgrove to the words from Tiffany (AKA Fidgets and Fries on Facebook). It shares a relatable day with Mama and son, who experience the world differently then the common experience. It teaches that all communication is valid. My heart was happy reading this. My mama heart felt along with Tiffany during their experiences throughout their day. At one point we considered an AAC device for my autistic daughter, had it ready to go for her. She had ideas about that! And really that’s what is at the heart of this book, following your child’s direction of what they need to thrive in a world that might not always understand them. Go buy a few copies. I promise you’ll not only love it, but love to give this book to others! Picture Description [A copy of A Day With No Words by Tiffany Hammond in a bright blue sensory swing.]

Beautiful book! Even if you don’t have an autistic person in your family, you likely encounter autistic folks in your day to day life. This story is such a great look into an autistic family may interact with the world.

Brilliant, lyrical, stunning visually, poignant and necessary in an increasingly harsh world. This book makes me cry. We didn't deserve their story, but we are so fortunate to get to share it.

Highly recommend! I have an autistic daughter and reading this made me cry happy tears that there’s a book in stores that gives an insight on being autistic and nonverbal. I hope this helps many nonverbal kiddos feel seen and understood, but also I hope it helps neurotypical people understand autism a bit more. The illustrations are so beautiful so well!

My son is non speaking and autistic and I follow the author Tiffany Hammond on instagram (run, don’t walk to follow her- @fidgets.and.fries). I preordered this book as soon as she announced it on social media months ago. I have been waiting eagerly for what feels like forever for this book to arrive. I couldn’t wait to read it to my son, a book about his experience as a non speaking individual. I think it’s safe to say I had pretty high expectations about this book, and I’m very happy to report that A Day With No Words exceeded all of them! It was both beautifully written and illustrated. The pictures perfectly accompany the words and the images seem to be dancing ever page. I was so happy to share a story with my son that we could both relate to about autism… not an easy find. I will be reading it nightly for the foreseeable future! Thank you Tiffany and Kate! Great work!

"A Day with No Words" is a beautiful story about an autistic boy and his mother spending a day together in the community. Tiffany Hammond, the author, is herself autistic and wrote the story about her experiences with her son, who is nonspeaking and uses a tablet to communicate. This book offers a rare window into the lives of neurodivergent individuals and fosters understanding about the ways they communicate and experience the world that may seem unusual to those who have limited knowledge about Autism. Hammond addresses the way discrimination against autistic people can be hurtful when a character makes an insulting comment about the boy in the story. The way her character speaks up for her son and his dignity is inspiring. Beyond that, most of the book simply focuses on the pleasures the characters find in going to the park, twirling in the grass, getting fast food and connecting with one another. The vibrant illustrations by Kate Cosgrove do a fantastic job of depicting the inner life of the main character. As a speech-language pathologist, I love that this book depicts Black autistic characters as well as individuals who communicate through modes other than speech. It allows Black autistic individuals to see themselves reflected in the story, and allows everyone else to consider other perspectives and gain a further understanding of our shared humanity.

This is a book you need to have in your child’s library. The pictures are so beautiful and the story is well written. My 4yr old loves “No Words” it’s so neat to have a story about the life of a child who does not speak and other ways he is able to communicate.

This book brought me so much joy while showcasing a day in the life of Tiffany’s son who is an AAC user. The illustrations by Kate are fantastic. My favorite page was the deep mama breath to catch her cool while she prepared to nicely confront (and teach) some people at the park.
