Four siblings leave their divorced, lapsed-Amish father for the stability and sense of family provided by their Old Order grandparents in a peaceful small-town in Ohio.

Book Synopsis

In a heartwarming new series from New York Times bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray, four siblings take a genuine leap of faith when they move to their grandparents' farm in rural Ohio and decide to become Amish. Exploring the relationship between Amish and English cultures through the lens of a single family, the Amish Again series is perfect for fans of Beverly Lewis, Suzanne Woods Fisher, and Charlotte Hubbard - and anyone who enjoys uplifting stories about faith, family, love, and the simple life. SIMULTANEOUS HARDCOVER AND TRADE PAPERBACK RELEASE! Siblings Martin, Kelsey, Beth, and Jonny are as different as can be, but they have one thing in common. They're all longing to reinvent their lives. Raised by their divorced lapsed-Amish father and English mother, they only knew real stability and a sense of family when visiting their Old Order grandparents, Josiah and Sylvia Schrock, in peaceful Holmes County, Ohio. Now the four want to try living with them and joining their faith-much to the Schrocks' surprise . . . Martin, the eldest, is reeling from a bad breakup, so he's especially determined to make a fresh start. When he meets his grandparents' neighbor, Patti Coblentz, he's immediately drawn to her outgoing, helpful nature-but is so overwhelmed that he appears blunt and rude. Is there any way he can drop his defenses enough to admit she's captured his heart? Always self-conscious about the birthmark on her temple, Patti is resigned to never marrying and busying herself with the responsibilities of the large home and property she has inherited. Besides, Martin's ill-mannered behavior and disconcerting directness make him the last man she'd ever want to wed-no matter how handsome he is. Yet given time and patience-and adhering to their grandparents' unexpectedly challenging rules-the whole family might just find what they're looking for, even Martin and Patti.

Very different Amish story

5 out of 5 stars
Thumbs up graphic, would recommend

This was a different Amish story that will be continued so it seems. Four adult siblings decide to visit their Amish grandparents and tell them they each want to become Amish. The grandparents were overwhelmed and decided they could only handle two at a time for a year. The oldest, Martin and the youngest girl, Kelsey decided they wanted to experience it first. It was a very hard adjustment and other's in the community figured they wouldn’t make it. Will they? Enjoyed getting to know these characters and all the family and friend relationships. I received this book as a gift and chose to write a review.

A charming Amish story!

A is for Amish by Shelley Shepard Gray is a charming story. I liked the relatable characters, especially the grandparents. They are patient, loving, and supportive (they are going to need that patience). I like that the four siblings are close. Those same siblings are talking about making a major change in their lives. I cannot imagine converting to Amish (I cannot give up my luxuries especially air conditioning). It is easier said than done giving up the items we take for granted (electricity, Wi-Fi, a car). We get to know the characters and experience the journey with them. It is an emotional and inspiring story that was over far too soon. The author captured the locale and brought it to life for me. The ending has me very eager for B is for Bonnet. A is for Amish is a heartwarming tale with romance, family, friendship, and faith.

Sweet Romance with a Few Twists

5 out of 5 stars

This is a sweet Amish romance with a few twists and surprises along the way. Martin, Kelsey, Beth and Jonny are siblings who want to leave their old, modern life behind and join their grandparents in the Amish community. They make the decision for Martin and Kelsey to take the leap of faith first, so those two move in with their Mommi and Dawdi, determined to adapt to the Amish way of life and dress. The tale of their adventures is heart-tugging at times as well as told very realistically. The pace of the story is perfect for the story being revealed to the reader about their feelings and actions as they adjust. The characters are dynamic and relatable, especially their hesitation at times to leave their old life behind. I enjoyed the story, the characters and the idea of more stories to come in this new series. Good Amish story

Four siblings whose parents divorced. The father formerly Amish, the mother "English". The siblings have since relied on one another and been close. They find peace and well-being when visiting their Amish grandparents. As they discuss things, they decided that they would like to see if they would like to become members of the Amish community of their grandparents. I really liked this book, because I could see the real possibility of them trying out a new life, one that they found good and hopefully filled with happiness for them. As Martin and Kelsey start their lives in the Amish community they find friends and acceptance as well as some other interesting characters. The story leaves you wanting more and I will surely want to read the next book in the series. I have to know what happens next! I received a book that I was lucky to win in a giveaway. All thoughts are my own.
