Book Synopsis
In this captivating atmospheric novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Unmaking of June Farrow, a woman investigates her twin brother's mysterious death while confronting the ghosts of her own haunted past. James and Johnny Golden were once inseparable. For as long as she can remember, James shared an almost supernatural connection with her twin brother, Johnny, that went beyond intuition--she could feel what he was feeling. So, when Johnny is killed in a tragic accident, James knows before her phone even rings that her brother is gone and that she's alone--truly alone--for the first time in her life. When James arrives in the secluded town of Six Rivers, California, to settle her brother's affairs, she's forced to revisit the ominous events of their shared past and finally face Micah, the only other person who knows their secrets--and the only man she has ever loved. But as James delves deeper into Johnny's world, she realizes that their unique connection hasn't completely vanished. The more she immerses herself in his life, the more questions she has about the brother she thought she knew. Johnny was hiding something, and he's not the only one. The deeper she digs, the more she is compelled to unravel the truth behind the days leading up to Johnny's death. Ultimately, James must decide which truths should come to light, and which are better left buried forever.Review Quotes

Reading A Sea of Unspoken Things felt like trying to untangle a massive ball of yarn. Each twist and knot was so intricately woven, but somehow, it all made sense as I worked through it. I was completely focused on each moment, and by the time the final thread unraveled, the full story hit me in the best way possible. From the very first chapter, this book had me in its grip. Adrienne Young’s writing always leaves me feeling unsettled in a way that’s both uncomfortable and addictive. I was emotionally invested before I’d even made it to chapter two. There were moments in this story that left me squirming, but I think that was the point. It’s not a book that lets you stay in your comfort zone. While a few parts of the story were predictable, it never once felt slow. I couldn’t bring myself to put it down, and even when I thought I knew what was coming, the journey to get there still had me hooked. The ending brought everything together in a way that felt both satisfying and earned, which made all the tension worth it. If you’re looking for a book that will make you feel deeply, unsettle you, and keep you glued to the page, A Sea of Unspoken Things is one to pick up. Adrienne Young’s storytelling is as raw and haunting as ever, and this one will stick with me for a long time. Thank you, NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group, for this ARC.

Sometimes a story just clicks. It's unpredictable but when it happens it happens and for me this is one of those stories. I don't know quite how to review this beautiful story. This is the first book I've truly connected to on such a visceral level. It was the small town, seeing people you've grown up with years later, that close sibling bond, asking yourself what you would do to protect your family and the fear that we don't know the people we thought we knew. It was like viewing my life through a distorted lens. I felt for James every step of the way. Wanting every suspicion to be wrong. Wanting her brother back. Wanting answers and equally afraid of what those answers may be. This story had so much life and depth. This is my first read from author Adrienne Young and I wanted to thank Netgalley and Random House for the opportunity. I honestly can't wait to go pick up a physical copy.

I received this as a ARC from NetGalley in advance of its 2025 release. As usual, Adrienne Young delivers mystery with an edge of mystical in the most heartbreaking way. The story of a woman returning to her hometown after the death of her twin brother to find answers. She has always had a connection outside of understanding with her brother and she feels in her bones that his death wasn’t the accident it was chalked up to be. As she digs deeper into the time before his death, she also has to revisit some of her own demons. As she plucks at each thread she finds, the story begins to unravel to a finish I did not see coming. P.S. Micah is Chad Michael Murray and you cannot convince me otherwise!
