A Great Choice for Book Club!

This book is a brilliant meshing of three POVs and three generations. A gilded age tale of three women left to ponder their past, present and future when the son/husband/father dies and their inheritance is reverted from their household. Quotes that speak to the themes— “The important thing isn’t what we do, but whether we’re willing to obey God when we do it.” “I’ve learned that with every choice we make, we’re saying no to other paths.” “…we shouldn’t do our work because we pity the poor, or because we feel guilty for being privileged, and certainly not because we want to feel good about ourselves when we go to sleep at night. We must do it because our heart overflows with love for God. And because He asks us to love our neighbors.” I read both the ebook and audiobook and, for the most part, the narrated voices were distinct, easy to understand and maintained vocal inflections that differentiated characters. Questions for book discussion are included with this stand alone novel and additional resources are available on the author’s website. This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language.

Compelling Historical Fiction!

It's been a while since I read a book by this author but this story has made Lynn Austin a must-read author for me! All My Secrets is the tale of three generations of Stanhope women who've known joy, grief, and heartache. All My Secrets is set in New York during the last years of the 19th century and Austin gives readers an excellent view into the lives of the wealthy and affluent families who lived during the Gilded Age. This was a time when women were dependent on their wealthy husbands, and most were content to allow this to happen! Most, that is, until Junietta Stanhope arrived on the scene! This is a stunning story that I won't forget, and I'd love to see it made into a movie. If you enjoy historical fiction and Christian romance, please grab a copy of this book. I believe that you'll be as entranced as I was!! I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review.

Lynn Austin’s brand new novel set in the Gilded Age in New York City is superb! The novel weaves the lives of three generations of Stanhope women. Each has experienced profound losses, and each processes, struggles, and learns from her experiences differently. Lynn Austin’s characters once again portray remarkable growth and development. They learn to set aside worldly wants and ambitions and trust God’s plan for their lives instead. The novel grips you right from the first page and continues to draw you in as you’re immersed in the lives of these three women. It is a beautiful story. I didn’t want it to end! Thank you, Lynn Austin, for another gem!

The Real Truth

Once again, Lynn Austin has invited us into a period in our country so different than today. The gilded age is entrenched with an seemingly immoveable social standard that still possesses the same challenges, hopes and expectations that are relevant today. Join three Stanhope women as they face finding their purpose while navigating grief, financial instabilities and change. Three generations are linked together by love and loss. A grandmother, a mother and a granddaughter are all on the cusp of life changing events that will affect them all individually and collectively. Grandmother Junietta challenges us all with her quotes and perspective: “But I also urge you to take your time. I’ve learned that with every choice we make, we’re saying no to other paths;” “You know, beautiful houses filled with possessions mean nothing if a home lacks love;” and finally “The Almighty has a way of bringing good things from our sorrows, if we let Him.” Three women, three missions, three different perspectives drawn together by love. As you read the pages and their secrets are revealed, the truth, the real truth comes to light.

Adelaide Stanhope had always lived the privileged life of the Gilded Age high society, that is, until her father's untimely death and the restrictions placed on the family's wealth by her great grandfather's will. Now there are hard choices to be made, choices made more difficult by the vastly different opinions of her mother and grandmother. The lives of these three women change as they learn many lessons over the next year, lessons readers of each of the story's represented generations could learn from as well. This novel focuses on priorities: allowing them to be formed for us or choosing to form them on our own, determining what position one should have within their own priorities, and contemplating where and how God's will impacts one's priorities. These are meaty questions, ones Lynn Austin masterfully walks her characters through as they negotiate their changing circumstances. A secondary theme of how to live with or to move on from mistakes and hard feelings is equally well-handled. The story is beautifully written and is as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of All My Secrets from Tyndale via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

This story was a lovely, fresh look at how our lives, no matter how broken, can be made into something beautiful if we give ourselves over to the Lord’s will and allow Him to direct our paths, choosing to use the gifts He has given each of us to help others and glorify Him. Like the petals of a flower, slowly unfurling, the characters take us on a journey through their lives, all of their hopes and dreams, the bubbly intensity and also tragedies of first love, how families and their choices can shape a young life forever… How your response to a situation, your reactions in both the good and the bad times, can cause a ripple effect and leave a lasting influence on the lives of countless others around you. All My Secrets has a unique storyline that engulfed me right through to the last page! I love the dynamics of Junietta, Sylvia and Adelaide’s relationship and the growth expressed by each of them throughout the book. And I came to care deeply about each of them! I relished the slow revelation of secrets, both shocking and tragic, that played out across the pages as I progressed, spiraling first downward, only to begin the steady march back up, igniting a flicker of hope in my heart that had grown into a cozy hearth-fire by the end. This was storytelling at its best!

So Much More Than A Novel!

Lynn Austin's newest novel, "All My Secrets" is an enchanting tale of humanity that spans the ages. The characters have such depth, the story such hairpin turns, that the reader is raptured into the story and held there. With the threads of sin and forgiveness strongly woven throughout, one will find that New York in 1898 isn't so different than today. After all, family secrets will always be. I enjoyed this novel immensely, but the miracle of Lynn Austin's novels are that they are so much more than entertainment. I've yet to read one of her books and not be emotionally impacted. I feel God's touch in each word written, and I know Lynn was inspired by my Heavenly Father to pen these stories. I'm a new empty-nester, and I've struggled so during this season. This morning, I felt impressed by the Lord to move in a new direction in life, and that can be so frightening. I grabbed a notepad and wrote down some thoughts; "Is this what the recent challenges have prepared me for?", "Is this your idea or mine, Lord?", "Am I qualified for this route, Father? To old to begin something new?". Imagine my surprise when I finished the novel and read "A Note From the Author" on page 371. The last paragraph on the page reads, "For readers who are Sylvia's age and may be facing unwanted changes such as an empty nest, it's my prayer that you will look at your gifts and life experiences in new ways and see that God is always ready to use us if we're willing to embrace change. I had already celebrated my fortieth birthday when my first book was published, launching me into a new career. New beginnings can be exciting." How's that for an answer?! ❤️ Thank you, Lynn Austin, for being an instrument through which God speaks.

Superb Historical Romance

All My Secrets is Historical Christian Romance of the highest quality! This powerful story of faith and love in trying circumstances is one that stays with you long after the last line is read. It is a beautifully crafted story with an emotionally rich, multi-faceted storyline seamlessly transitioning between flashbacks and real time. I was immediately drawn in and stayed immersed in the story and the vividly described Gilded Age setting. The characterization is amazing. The story is told from the point of view of all three main characters—women at different stages of life; therefore, I think women of all ages will find someone to connect with in the story. I love Junietta’s “tell it like it is” insight into what is really important in life, and her strong faith. She is now on my list of favorite fictional characters. I greatly appreciate the strong faith element with the theme of God’s forgiveness. This book is the latest addition to my Best Reads Ever list and has my highest recommendation. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A riveting, stellar piece of art form that captivated me from the beginning. I loved the three women and how their personalities and perspectives were each shown as they shared their secrets and hearts. I found myself sobbing over Junietta and the heartbreak she endured as well as her road to forgiveness. Sylvia seemed hardened but as you learned her story and see the work that God is unfolding in her life you will find understanding. Adelaide is a young woman who is a people pleaser but as secrets unfold she finds herself on a journey to becoming her own person. I loved everything about this story and although I wanted to binge read I took my time to savor it and peel back the multilayered characters and allowed myself to be swept away to the Gilded Age of New York City. The lessons learned and life experiences of family along with the spiritual journeys makes for a satisfying read that leaves you wanting more. This will definitely be on my favorites list. I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
