Q&A(5)

Q: Is it at all possible to record without wifi? I was thinking of installing a micro sd card. I would review it quickly each day just to see if anything was recorded in my presence.

submitted by An inquisitive gal - 5 months ago
  • A: Hi An Inquisitive gal! The Blink Outdoor camera cannot record without Wi-Fi. It requires an active Wi-Fi connection to communicate with the Sync Module, send notifications to your smartphone, and upload recorded video clips to the cloud. Without Wi-Fi, the camera won't be able to detect motion or record any footage, as the Blink system is designed to work with an internet connection for its core features to operate.I hope this helps. Have a great day!

  • A: The Blink system requires a high speed 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network to function. Without Wi-Fi, the system will instantly fall offline until it is reconnected, and nothing will be recorded.

Q: Could I use this in my car? As a driver or does it have to be connected to internet

submitted by Potluck - 10 months ago
  • A: Hi Potluck! The Blink Indoor Add-On Camera is designed to connect to a Blink Sync Module located in your home, which handles the internet connection for all of your connected Blink Cameras. While you could place a camera in your car, it would only work when it was within range of the Sync Module so I wouldn't personally recommend it. The Blink Outdoor 4 Floodlight Security Camera is a battery operated floodlight that's easy to install outdoors, and could be a great choice to keep an eye on your vehicle while it's at home. I hope that helps, have a great rest of your day!

Q: Does using this device require a paid monthly subscription or is it free to use?

submitted by coe - 3 years ago
  • A: Hello, All existing customers who have an account created on or before 4/15/2020 will continue to receive free cloud storage on all devices added to their account going forward – this includes Mini, and Blink Indoor, Outdoor and Doorbell. Separately, XT, XT2, and legacy Indoor cams will continue to have free storage. Accounts created after 4/15/2020 will receive free cloud storage on any legacy device (1st Gen Indoor, XT or XT2), but any Mini, new Blink Indoor, Outdoor cameras or Doorbell added to that same account will require either local storage via the Sync Module 2 or a subscription for cloud storage to save videos. If you do not subscribe to the Blink subscription plan, you can still enable motion alerts that notify you if your cameras detect movement, however, without a subscription this notification will not trigger a video clip recording but you can still live view. A subscription is not required for local storage. Local USB storage will still be available for no charge. You will still be able to record and do everything the same as with Cloud storage except live view record. No matter which storage system you use, your clips will be recorded & uploaded to the proper place. If you're using local storage they go to your USB stick, subscription cloud storage would send it to the cloud. The only time that a motion notification/motion event won't record a clip is when there is no storage system in place. Since there is nowhere to send the clips without storage, the clips don't get recorded.

Q: Do you need anything else other than the camera itself to set it up working?

submitted by Jal - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi Jal! All you need to setup the Blink Indoor camera is the camera, an available outlet for power supply, the "blink" app installed on your mobile device, and a non-cellular 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (name and password) and high speed Internet connection (DSL, Cable, Fiber) with a minimum 2 Mbit/sec upload speed. Thanks for the question, have an amazing day!

Q: Is this compatible with Blink XT2 system?

submitted by Sherri - 4 years ago
  • A: You are able to add the Blink Mini, Blink Outdoor or Blink Indoor to your existing Blink System. If you are adding the Blink Mini, Blink Indoor and Outdoor cameras to an existing Blink Account that has been activated on or before 4/15/2020, you will be grandfathered into your current free cloud storage model in the Blink app. Blink accounts activated after 4/15/2020 will receive motion alerts and be able to enter Live View for free, but will require either local storage via the Sync Module 2 or a subscription for cloud storage to save videos for these newer cameras. A subscription is not required for local storage. You can have up to 10 Blink devices per sync module as long as they are all within the 100ft operating range of the sync module in any direction. The cameras on the sync module can be in any combination.
