Q: Is there alcohol in this product? Target claims it compares to the Listerine Total Care, which is alcohol-free.

submitted by annmon - 5 years ago
  • A: Hello annmon - Thanks for asking. This mouthwash does contain alcohol. Please feel free to check the Drug Facts tab for more info, and have a great day! - Aaron

  • A: Total Care normally contains alcohol. Listerine does, however, make a separate alcohol-free version.

Can't believe it

I was always a firm believer that a mouth wash without alcohol couldn't possibly be effective. I don't know what's in that stuff but if you swich it hard enough in your mouth, it will feel like alcohol and more. I sometimes even notice my fresh breath in the morning (and, yeah, I know, I sound like a commercial agent or marketing guy but, it's true). The fact that's it's not the brand name is like the cherry on top and I thank god it doesn't taste like cherry syrup

Alcohol added in-is no longer an anticavity product.

They changed the formula so now it has alcohol in it. Alcohol neutralizes the fluoride which makes the anti cavity aspect a complete waste. It no longer protects against cavities scientifically, and is therefore a complete sham and waste of money. Do not buy this and do not fall for their lies. You have to get the zero alcohol green act one to prevent cavities. Unfortunately Target is lying through the claim on the packaging and I think this is grounds for a lawsuit.

Flavor name on bottle is misleading

Jessicalea03 - 3 months ago, Verified purchaser
The label says it’s fresh mint but the product listing on the website says eucalyptus mint and eucalyptol is listed in the ingredients. I wouldn’t have bought this had I known it was anything other than a mint flavor. The eucalyptus mint is VERY medicinal and makes me want to rinse my mouth as soon as I spit. Which defeats the whole purpose of a fluoride mouthwash. It needs to be properly labeled, or just redone so the flavor isn’t so awful.

My dentist told me to get this for sensitive teeth. I use it 3 times a day and noticed a huge improvement in cold and hot foods not hurting. The ingredients are the same, but some are rearranged versus brand name. It's a lot cheaper than listerine

NO Antiseptic Properties!!!

TargetMom73 - 7 months ago, Verified purchaser
I wanted to love this because the color matches my bathroom. After I received the bottle I saw that it does not have antiseptic properties like most mouthwashes do. It has less health benefits at a higher cost, both to my oral health and wallet. I do not recommend this product. Buyer be aware!

Fluoride rinse mouthwashes have gotten really costly, so it's good to have up&up's version at a much better price. The ingredients are the same so why not save money? Recommended.

This particular one has always had alcohol.

First I would like to start off by saying that this mouthwash has ALWAYS had alcohol in it. People are assuming because it’s purple that it’s the alcohol free version, but that was a totally different up & up mouthwash. The alcohol free version, which was also purple, was targets take on Crest Advanced Alcohol Free mouthwash, the alcohol version has been its take on regular Listerine Total Care Mouthwash (all four are purple). As of right now Up & Up has not put out an updated version of the alcohol free mouthwash yet. That all being said, I’ve always loved this mouthwash, I’ve been using it for a decade, I feel it meets all my healthy teeth & gum needs! I’m docking a star because this new version isn’t labeled to “restore enamel” like the previous version stated, only time will tell if it’s as good as its predecessor.

The previous version was alcohol-free, so I assumed this would be as well until I felt the burn! Using a mouthwash with alcohol in it daily, can cause dry mouth overtime. I wish they wouldn’t have added alcohol, we could have just gotten an antiseptic one for that.

Bought this without checking that it was alcohol free, since the previous purple up&up mouth wash was alcohol free. Whoever decided to change the formula is a dingo.
