Book Synopsis
Someone wants Daisy McLaren dead, and she doesn't know why.
Daisy is a small-town reporter with big dreams. When she is drawn to the site of a small plane crash in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, she discovers it's near a remote mountain road where her mother died years ago. What she thought was a simple crash turns sinister when she sees a man running away from the site. Her gut feeling is that the plane carried drugs to her small town. Not even her ex can convince her to step aside while the authorities investigate. As an FBI agent takes over the investigation, events spiral out of control. Bodies pile up as she struggles to uncover the truth.
With each passing day, the deaths are getting closer to home.
Review Quotes
I just finished Appalachian Trails and wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed it. Well done! I like your main character, Daisy. I love her relationship with the stray cat - so endearing. You capture the mountains and flora beautifully, and I love how de Soto and the Cherokee add layers to the mystery. My one complaint is the salad recipe on page 99. I had a hard time concentrating after that it sounded so good. - Sara Johnson, author of The Bone Track and other Alexa Glock mysteries
The author does a good job intertwining nature with the atmosphere of a small country town populated by a host of interesting characters. Even the names add to the rustic feel- Daisy, the Walkers. The scenes are graphically described and in patches, the author racks up the tension effectively. Daisy is a forceful, idealistic character while Jake is laid-back, pragmatic but protective. -David Bush
