Description

Book Synopsis

Comedic and Inspirational memoir from the stand-up comic who coined the phrase "Happy Wife, Happy Life".

Leave it to a comedian to find God through the Bible's most depressing book.

For years, one of the funniest men in America was crying on the inside. Jeff Allen was a comedian with the lead role in a tragedy.

Born into a tough working-class Chicago family, Allen fell into substance abuse at an early age, and his problems didn't magically go away when he got married. In fact, with the arrival of two children, they intensified. The sense that his life was meaningless made his family life as dark and biting as his comedy.

But in his darkest moment, an unlikely encounter with the gloomiest book of the Bible set him on the path to salvation. The opening line of Ecclesiastes-- "Meaningless, meaningless, all in life is meaningless"--resonated with him.

So he kept reading, and soon he discovered the Source of meaning. Eventually, Allen found himself with a revitalized marriage and a repurposed career.

If you have struggled to find meaning in your life, this book is for you.

With his trademark humor and unflinching honesty, Allen will point you to the only One who can answer the question, "Are we there yet?" You'll know when you've arrived.

"I was complaining about all my problems and addictions one day. My therapist looked me dead in the eye and said, 'You should meet Jeff Allen.' This book will give you a glimpse into the life of one of the best men I know, whether he's crushing it at the comedy club or lipping out a birdie putt." --JOHN CRIST, American and world-class comedian

"Jeff has a unique way of communicating the one thing God pretty much insists on: humility." --GARY CHAPMAN, Grammy Award winner and TV and radio host

Wanna see the character behind the comic? READ IT. IT’S AWESOME! It’s Jeff Allen at his funniest…laying bare his life’s story, warts and all. He captivates us with the raw backstory of his and Tami’s personal and spiritual journey together…while shaking our ‘prim and proper’ loose with therapeutic belly laughter.

I have always been a fan of Jeff Allen, so when I saw he had written a book I had to read it. I figured it would have all kinds of funny stuff. Instead I read a story of someone who grows up having the same obstacles as others. This book shows you obstacles and how this wonderful man overcomes them. How he finds himself and finds God. He and his wife work together to strengthen their marriage and make God the third part of their marriage. This book gives you hope and desire to want to work with your spouse to better your marriage. Thank you Jeff for opening yourself up and sharing with your fans that you are human and make mistakes also, but what you can do to overcome your mistakes.

Jeff pulls no punches with his nakedly honest journey from being a man most people could not stand to be around to being changed by the grace of God and becoming a man people admire, not only as a comedian, but as a husband, a father, and a man of God. His story, from fits of rage, drugs, and alcohol eventually leads him to friendships with people like Bill Gaither, Michael W. Smith, and Gary Chapman. What happened to him to make this drastic change? Life, my friends. A messed-up life. This was not only a good read, but a convicting read too. I actually had to take a break from reading it for a day or two to re-evaluate my personal walk with my wife, my family, and my God. I highly recommend it!
