Awesome Laptop performance, annoying RGB lights, If I only want the backlighting of the keyboard to work, then entire laptop must shine which is very annoying. There is no work around for it either. Other than that happy with its performance and hardware.
Stix this where?

Freezes with docking station and/or usb switch connected, cannot handle more than two screens, windows 11 constantly having to be clean installed, won’t take upgraded RAM. Gets extremely hot, GPU and AI, yeah ok, not going to work either.

Dear Ineeda Monie, Thank you for reaching out. We do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience if you are experiencing performance issue with the laptop and unable to install more than three monitors. To resolve these issues, please ensure Windows, drivers, BIOS, games and applications are up to date. Keeping the laptop updated will maintain optimum system stability and performance. Updates for this laptop are available for download at: https://rog.asus.com/us/laptops/rog-strix/rog-strix-scar-16-2024/helpdesk_download/ . If the above-mentioned steps were already performed to no avail, please try to run a diagnostics or optimization test using the "My ASUS" utility software or application. If this is not pre-installed on the laptop, please download the application at the Microsoft Store. For details on how to use "My ASUS", please go to: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1041686/. To upgrade the RAM, ensure you are using compatible and working memory modules. This laptop will supports three monitors using a compatible and working USB docking station that supports video output. We do understand your concern about thermal issues. It is normal that excessive heat is generated while under heavy load especially during gaming, WINDOWS Update and antivirus scan. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle. Please ensure the air ventilations are free from obstructions in order to have an efficient air flow for better heat dissipation. While gaming, please ensure no resource hungry applications are running in the background, this will definitely spike the temperature. The heat or temperature does decreases or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent from the link: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/1135/. Purchased this notebook to replace my older Asus laptop 8 years ago which its CPU is no longer supported in Windows 11. This is a great laptop which has cutting edge technology both in processing (CPU) Along with amazing graphic processing GPU (4090) NVIDIA. Which is matched with an amazing screen. Asus support helped me understand what I needed to upgrade RAM and storage space . Very helpful knowing the maximum limitations.
Not what i expected.

The build quality is excellent, and everything is perfect. However, there should be an option to increase the laptop’s storage.
Set up was easy.

Purchase was fast and easy. Initial boot up was easy as well. Runs cool but I still use a cooling fan pad to help prolong laptop life. My only criticism is I don't feel it has enough RAM and will be adding more.

I decided to replace my 5-year-old gaming laptop a few weeks ago with the main prerequisites being a 16" display and an RTX-4090 GPU. Having been out of the loop for 5 years since my last purchase I had to refresh my knowledge with what gaming laptops were now offering. The Scar 16 was actually one of the first ones I considered but I went down the rabbit hole over a couple of weeks looking at Acer, Alienware, MSI, Lenovo, and Razer. I almost pulled the trigger on an Alienware X16 R2 and I'm so glad that I circled back to the Scar and realized it had everything I wanted on my checklist in a super stylish package. The others came with compromises such as soldered RAM, inferior displays, small track pads, crammed keyboards, etc. The Scar 16 offered little to no compromise for me and the design is perfect. After a week of using it I'm even more pleased than I thought I would be. Being a high-performance laptop I did have concerns about possible hardware or software issues but after setting it up and getting familiar with the software I have no issues at all. I've played around with Aura, setting up a few RGB profiles and it's a powerful piece of software. Every LED can be controlled individually. Want just all or part of the keyboard backlit? Or want the keyboard and back lid logo lit? Aura can do this in everything from static colors to various rainbow patterns with multiple ways to customize. It's a great tool and I haven't even fully explored all the options yet. Armoury Crate also works perfectly with various ways to tweak performance and balance out energy use. The mini-LED display offers a single zone setting that none of the competition have which provides better color accuracy than multizone and is still super bright. This was a big selling point for me and I have nothing negative to say about it. It's a bright and gorgeous display. The keyboard is well thought out with good key spacing and 2mm of key travel and the glass trackpad is nicely sized and smooth. Performance wise it's a beast. Aside from running all my games perfectly at the highest settings I ran various benchmarks and consistently pulled above average results as compared to the same hardware. The fans do kick in hard under heavy use but that's par for the course for any gaming laptop at this level and they keep it nice and cool. I've done some post-purchase comparisons to the other laptops I was considering and am even more confident I made the right choice. It's a well thought out and very cohesive machine that offers top level performance in every area all wrapped up in a beautifully unique design with rock solid build quality. ASUS hit a home run with this one.

Laptop CPU operates at 70W instead of advertised 140W, underperforms compared to same model, and has heating problems.
1 reply from CLM team - 7 months ago
Dear Blin, We do understand your concern about thermal issues and the system performance of the laptop. At 70 watts, most likley, the CPU is in idle mode, it wll automatically drive the maximum allowable power if CPU-intensive applications are running. Regarding the heat issue, it is normal that excessive heat is generated while under heavy load especially during gaming, WINDOWS Update and antivirus scan. To maintain optimum stability and performance, please ensure Windows, drivers and applications are up to date. While cloud gaming, or while accessing web applications, please ensure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since poor, or unstable internet connection will definitely affect system speed and performance. Should you need further assistance with the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be more than happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent from the link: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/1135/. The Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 is a top-of-the-line gaming laptop that boasts both excellent performance and striking aesthetics. With a powerful 14th Gen Intel Core processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, it can handle even the most demanding games with ease. Additionally, the display delivers vivid visuals and a smooth refresh rate. Although not my favorite feature, the dazzling RGB lighting adds a touch of personality. While on the heavier side, the overall build quality is impressive. Although still not quite on par with the Zephyrus G16 build quality, the Scar 16 more than makes up for its build quality with approximately 20% more performance over the G16 and the ability to further upgrade the RAM for even more performance. If you're looking for a gaming laptop that offers both style and substance, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 is a great option for a portable desktop replacement.

It's a great laptop to replace your tower! I picked this up because I wanted something specifically for my house that was movable from room to room. Would also recommend for long term hotel stays for work. Not a travel PC - find something lighter for that.

Never before had a “Gaming Laptop” or PC before this one, so I’ve not got a lot to compare it to. In truth I didn’t buy it for gaming, I purchased a high powered machine capable of any & everything I could want to do with ease, & it fits that description to a T. Especially surprised at how much I like it, coming from a MacBook Pro & never owning anything but Mac products, but this thing is just more streamlined to me personally than my Macs ever where. Overly happy and satisfied with my purchase, the 4090 and the Nebula HDR display come together in a beautiful crescendo of high definition graphics and vibrant colors that will almost make you dizzy at first if your not used to ultra HD displays. Solid, SOLUD 9.8/10
