What an awesome collection I showcased dolls at the Black History Festival in our small town. A sense and feeling of pride. A good teaching tool at this time of CRT.

My daughter brought to my attention that she was going to choose Bessie Coleman as her African-American owner for Black History Month at her school wax museum play. So we decided to make a costume for her to honor. Bessie Coleman.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My daughter loves her. She didn't want to take it out the box, but I promised to get her another one. She loves how every detail is correct, down to the clothes. Before opening, I gave her a brief summary of Bessie Coleman. We went out to grab her a plane so she could play airport. This barbie was a hit definitely recommend, especially if you have a child who loves history.
Very different from your typical Barbie

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] pros: Cute collectible Barbie that my daughter enjoyed even more after reading her inspirational story on the back of the box. At first she thought the Barbie was a character pilot from a movie we had just watched about Navy pilots. Then, when she realized this was a real person…her eyes grew big and she was amazed at the story. She became saddened that Bessie was killed bu the very thing she loved to do. Thus a true hero. Some minor cons: To remove from the box this toy required significant strength, large scissors, and patience. While playing with the Barbie my daughter needed adult assistance to remove the boots and hat and the clothes are not easily removed. Summary: As with all her Barbies, they get regular showers and change clothes often and go for rides in the car and sometimes sit by the campfire some nights. This one will be no exception and my daughter is looked forward to spending time with her inspirational new Barbie!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice piece of historical reference to such a career. Sir her in a plane and send her off. With the wind flowing through the luscious hair. She was an African american and Native American aviator, who had to travel elsewhere to get flight training. Bessies attitude and courage is worth a applause. Congrats to Mattel for continuing to celebrate many other heroes!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Barbie from the Inspiring Women Series looks great! It truly resembles the photo of Bessie Coleman on the box. I love that the back of the box includes a description about Bessie as well as promotes a message for children to dream big and work hard towards being anything they want to be! There is amazing attention to detail on the doll's hat and boots. The white shirt and green pilot suit look very reminiscent of the times. I think this doll would be great for both children and collectors. Overall, I am very impressed with the beautiful hair, attention to detail, and message this portrays!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Barbie surpassed my expectations! I love that her story is on the box and how detailed they made the doll in order to look like her- down to the shape of her nose, the hair style- all of it. I also really liked that they did an “aviation style” background in the box with her.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I honestly think that the Barbie Inspiring Women's collection is something to be admired and learned from. When I picked the Barbie Inspiring Women Collector Series Bessie Coleman I did so because prior to seeing this woman as a Barbie doll, I didnt know she existed. Of course I had to have her and learn of her along with my child. I wasn't sure what to expect. When it arrived, I noticed that there was a short biography of Bessie Coleman whose real name is Elizabeth Coleman ans had several nicknamed. Like I mentioned before, I had no real knowledge of Bessie Coleman so noticing accurate details was hard for me until I researched pictures. This is interesting because being Black History Month it was a great opportunity to learn along with a our child about who Bessie Coleman was, what she accomplished, and even how things where in her era. Physically the Bessie Doll doesnt look exactly like the real life person, with exception of the smile which I think its so similar as is the hairdo picked for her. The details in uniform are very similar to the real life thing which includes the boots. Little details like that are fun and great for those who collect Barbie dolls for display purposes. We chose to keep our Barbie Inspiring Women Collector Series Bessie Coleman doll as display doll in her stand which is included. I was thinking that it could be fun to make her clothes to fit during the 1920's era when she lived but we decided to keep her in her formal aviator gear. It would of been nice to have included some information about the type of place she flew in and/or included her aviator helmet. The doll itself is very nice to look at and has very good articulation but not as much as other Barbie dolls that we have. Its not a deal breaker for us because like I said, it will be a display doll. The head is easy to move around and pose. I tried to sit her down, and it was a bit of difficult but not sure why and it could be the stiffness of the cloth from with the uniform is made from. The hat is attached with a plastic tag but it seems like it completely removeable. The hat itself is hard plastic but looks somewhat like leather. Its detailed and covers the head nicely. The clothing is simply made no real details. One thing I wasn't happy with was the hair, its too stiff. Don't know why it was done this way because the hairstyle could of been done and kept the hair soft. Overall, as a family we enjoyed the Bessie Coleman doll from the Inspiring Women Collection and we are currently looking into buying one or two more from the series.
Okay, but…..
