Mower worked great for 6 times on a small yard than the motor froze up and stopped working. I live in a very small community with no practical way to have it fixed or returned. While working I loved all the features and the power it did a great job...........for six times.

best value in corded mowers

Very pleased with performance. After the third year the "brake assembly" (motor and drive) seized, but was cost effectively replaced. Two of the screws mounting the brake assembly are philips head plastite, which stripped when trying to remove. It would be better to use 1/4 hex drive plastite, which will hold up better in service.

Bad Design for an Electric Corded Lawn Mower

1 out of 5 stars
Jim51 - 2 years ago
originally posted on blackanddecker.com
The design of this mower and all like them have a flaw in the blade/cooling fan design. While cutting grass, the dirt, grass and anything else gets sucked up into the motor housing and Will cause the motor to burn up after just a few times you mow your lawn. So far Lowe's, Black and Decker and other electric corded mowers use the same flawed design. Don't buy any corded electric mowers with this design. I originally had a Black and Decker corded mower that lasted me over 20 years. This new design is crap!!!

This mower will die before the year is up but if you register it black and decker has a 2 year warranty. They send a new one to your house!works for me. In Phoenix there is a lot of dirt so spray the lawn with water before you mow so the dirt doesn’t clog the motor DUH

My second corded mower -- loved the first!

My first B&D corded mower lasted 12 years with one tune-up about six years into its use. I loved it and just bought a new one. It is light enough to steer around trees and irregular garden edges, much better than a friend's self-propelled gas mower. I don't mind wrangling the cord. Gas mowers are environmentally harmful. Go electric!

All Show No go

Vegcyclist - 4 years ago
Right out of the box, the clamps on the handles were loose, had to add many washers to each to get it to hold the handle securely. Many complaints: the grass catcher is very hard to secure to the mower and cut grass builds up on the underside plastic mower deck even when the lawn is dry. It lasted 2 seasons and the motor slowly died for a week until it just died completely, one week out of warranty. Talk about planned obsolescence.

Bought this mower last year and sat in the box, the switch cable broke within the first 2 weeks of use and it cost a little over 36 to replace it. Don't think I will purchase a lawn mower again from black and decker

Almost 5 years and still operating like new

I own two MM2000 type 2 models. I purchased my first about 2015 for my vacation home located on a small flat parcel. I purchased my second in 2016 for my main home located on a hilly ¼ acre of property. Having spent a lifetime owning and operating gas powered mowers I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from an electric one. I have been very impressed and satisfied with both. The motor is quite powerful and very quiet. It gives as clean a cut as any gas powered mowers I have owned but without all the maintenance and added expense issues associated with gas power. I have used them under normal conditions and also in overgrown, wet conditions. I have never had a problem with either one. Operation, maintenance and storage are easy due to its light weight and easy handle folding. After almost 5 years of use and some abuse both are still operating at peck performance. If I ever need to replace either one it will be with another Black and Decker.

Good, strong mower but weak in durability

I bought this mower in Sept. '19 because I had two of the previous model (M1800) that gave great service for 5-6 years each consecutively. I read the many reviews stating early motor "death" but gambled that most were due to too small of gauge for the length of the extension cord used. Well this one died the first weekend of Aug. '20, not quite one year of service. But it wasn't the motor that failed. The motor doesn't drive the blade's shaft directly but through some kind of offset "gearbox" where I'm guessing the blade "brake/clutch" is housed (don't know for sure because the included owner's manual doesn't have an exploded parts view). I believe the failure is in this "gearbox", either the blade "brake/clutch" won't disengage or a bearing has failed, because the motor turns VERY slowly for a second or two and stops (overheated?) and won't turn again for 3-5 minutes. The unit is still under (2 yr.) warranty; however, the nearest service center is 75 miles away. The gas for two round-trips to drop off and pick up plus the time away from work would cost me more than a new mower. A shame because the previous model performed so dang well for 5-6 years per unit, and under heavy use too.

Not as well built as older Model

Just days after the warranty expired, it quit. Too many of the parts were plastic, not metal as in the MM875. The grass collection bag was poorly made. It allowed dirt that was pulled up when mowing to be trapped inside the bag and there was no way to empty it.

I have had my MM2000 for three years since my MM1800 got wiped out by Hurricane Matthew. Has absolutely no problems. The MM2000bigger and is more powerful than the 1800, yet light, easy to maneuver and adjust the cutting height. Cleanup is a breeze. With any corded mower, cord management is important with the MM2000. Furthermore, your mowing scheme may not be the same as with a gas mower. I have had a bit of an issue finding parts, but that may because I live in rural area.

Great mower

MarkR - 5 years ago

This mower does everything a full-size gas mower does, but without the noise and odor. It cuts and bags beautifully and is easy to push. For most suburban homes, electric mowers are superior to gas - you won't have to pull the start cord; you'll never run out of gas; won't have to change a spark plug, oil, or have it tuned-up. Compared to a battery-powered mower, a corded mower requires little more planning, but it always runs at full power and you won't have to purchase batteries in 3 years.

Didn’t Last as Long as Expected

The blade height adjustment and the easy electric start are the best features. I mow my lawns, maybe total 1500 sq ft, once a week from May to October... that’s about 24 times per season, this mower lasted me 2 seasons + 1 month so 52 mows and the motor started smoking then quit. I only used it for lawn , nothing else. Not really the bang for the buck I was looking for. HomeDepot stopped selling them so I guess I’m not the only one who had this experience. Now I gotta find a way to get rid of it with costing an arm & a leg

This product has changed the way I think about B&D

Sorely disappointed - 5 years ago
originally posted on blackanddecker.com
Apparently this model has problems with the switch box. Mine gave out and I contacted B&D about a replacement part. Though personnel in customer service were extremely helpful, it took nearly two weeks (in the midst of prime mowing season) for the parts to arrive... and they came separately (days apart). The local authorized repair dealer listed on the website informed me that they no longer service B&D because of poor quality parts and have contacted B&D two years ago to have their center removed from the website. They directed me to another center to replace the part. The mower worked once before it again ceased to start. I used to think of B&D as a company that made quality products. I no longer do. I will now be purchasing another mower. It will not be a B&D.
