Kids’ measuring guide

Use the tips & visuals in this guide to make taking your child's body measurements easy-peasy.

Dont have a fabric tape measure? Use a shoelace or pant leg to measure. Then, lay it flat & use a ruler or tape measure to get a numerical measurement.

How to measure

  • Height

    Have your child stand in front of the fridge.Mark the top of the head with a magnet. Measure a straight line from floor to magnet.

  • Chest

    Have your child make airplane arms. Wrap tape measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping it level & snug.

  • Waist

    With your child bending to one side, measure the point where the waist flexes naturally. Keep the tape level & comfortably loose.

  • Hip

    Have your child stand like a tall tree with feet together. Measure a level line around the fullest part of the hips & seat.

  • Inseam

    Take a pair of pants that fit your child well. Measure along the seam from crotch to leg opening.

Q: Are these good for winter? Do they keep kids warm when outside but not too hot when indoors?

  • A: I think so. They're not super thick or thin, they're somewhere in the middle. My son has played outside when it's been in the thirties at school and then inside the school it's fairly warm and he's been perfectly comfortable, according to him. I guess it does depend on the kid too but we LOVE these sweatpants and have been buying them since he's been 4 and he's 9.5 now. That should say something. Lol Just FYI too- They also last forever and I've never had any holes or rips or visible wear. Great buy, even if lounging in the house. :)

Q: I’m buying for an Angel Tree child who wears a true 7. The small fits a 6/7. Is it best to size up or are these true to size? I don’t know the child, so not sure if big/small for age.

  • A: I would go bigger so they can be used for longer. That's my favorite thing about joggers is they can be too long and still be ok.

  • A: I'd get a medium and size up as others suggested. Only because they're going to grow, especially around that age. They are true to size but they also have an elastic waistband and a usable drawstring on the waist so when I've bought larger sizes I was able to tie the drawstring a bit, until he grew into them a bit better. HORRIBLE quality! These pants used to be AMAZING! But whatever they changed, the quality went way downhill. My son wore these for ONE month and holes in both knees. The knees all fade very badly within 2 weeks of wearing/ washing. Every single pair. I am embarrassed to put them on after. Waste of money! Do better target!

Shorter camo style

These were our staple for years! The sizing seems to be smaller and shorter. And the camo particularly is shorter than the black and grey ones. My kid is skinny and average height 13 yo but the same sizing of this seasons vs previous (I usually buy a few, next size up to stock) and these have shorter length. Same goes for the shorts, we use to get them every year but the length isn’t what it used to be and my kid prefers his shorts skimming the top of the knee (as per the description states on the shorts “over the knee”) but they are pretty short. Disappointed by the change.

Great pants for school. Got these in August and it’s now March. They have held up great, no holes, no fading. I agree with other people that they do pill, but I don’t really care, as long as they don’t tear. I will say that I exclusively hang dry, so the knee patch issue has not happened to me.
