Q: Has anyone tried doing a kumihimo type necklace or bracelet or necklace? can you re-thread the spools with something of your own choosing? Thanks!

A: Hi There! Unfortunately, Kumihimo type braiding requires a round or square braiding loom, with tabs on all sides to hold the string as you braid, and a hole in the middle to feed the braid through. As for the spools on our kit, yes, they can be re-thread with your own cording.Please visit our site for a "how to" video and printable beading templates! I have a 7 year old who was so excited to get this. It’s extremely difficult to get to work properly. I attempted with the beads and it just turned out too complicated and hard. Don’t buy.

the beads have a really strong chemical /rubber smell. I can smell it from across the room! I can't believe no one else mentioned it... maybe I got a bad batch. The different string options are nice, but the spools/spool holder are not useful at all. the only thing good about this is that the holder works well.

my 7 yr old daughter was excited to receive this, she just had a hard time deciphering the instructions on her own. With a little help she got it. Only downside I can think of is that if your kid isn't very organized, you're going to find all these tiny tiny beads all around the house.

I am not going to give it a BAD review because we didn't actually use the product. I am going to say I bought this for my 10 year old daughter and after we looked at it, it looked like the kind of gift I would be helping A LOT with. SO, this may be a good fit for a tween that is really into beading/crafting. We are pretty crafty but I do not necessarily love items like this that seem like for her but I end up doing all the work.

I am a grown woman and really like this kit if only for the foam string holder. The bobbins confuse me because it's not like you're unspooling the thread as you braid, but I guess it makes it marginally more organized. I like the beads although they and the cords are distinctly younger-person-feeling, being mostly neon. I plan to use only one or two of the included supplies in a project and mix them with more neutral colors. I love the string holder (I want to call it a loom) and I've been looking for something like that, so it was worth it for me just for that. I attached a picture of it holding a project with some twine (not included).
