Brookside Entryway Hall Tree with Storage Bench - Room & Joy

It was difficult to assemble and not as sturdy as I had hoped.

Shipping box was fine, but several pieces came damaged and discolored (see photos). Holes are drilled on the wrong side of a be piece and two dowels were missing. I had decided I was going to return it but Target wanted me to lug it back to the store or to a shipping facility. I could barely pull the box inside from my front steps when it was delivered, so there’s no way that was going to happen. Directions are flat out wrong for at least two steps. I read them and studied the accompanying pictures over and over and thought to myself “this can’t possibly be right” but built it the way I was instructed to anyway. Guess what. Holes didn’t match up; there’s a piece that is upside down (see pic with unfinished side and dowel showing); one of the rails for the bottom drawer was indeed completely backward; holes for drawer pull are uneven so it’s crooked when installed. Another reviewer brought up this next issue as well. This is not a “Room & Joy” product. Shipping box, instructions and warning stickers stuck to the item itself say it is “AmeriWood” and “SystemBuild,” customer service contact is “Dorel.” There is no mention anywhere of “Room & Joy” which is how Target advertises it. I’m keeping it only because I can’t figure out a way to return it easily.

They advertise this as NO ASSEMBLY REQUIRED! Yet it comes in a damaged box with pieces all over to assemble!

We’ve put together our fair share of furniture. Their hall tree was by far our worst experience. It arrived with damage to almost every piece. From full on broken pieces to major scratches. Was it the manufacturer, the store we bought it from, or the delivery company? I don’t know but the box was not damaged at all so either the packaging wasn’t sufficient enough to hold up to standard storing and shipping practices or it was sent broken. Customer service for the manufacturer did respond quickly. They sent me replacement pieces for the broken pieces and a “crayon” for the scratches. The replacement pieces were fine but the “crayon” isn’t the standard wax wood crayons you usually see for touch ups but a giant black marker that definitely stood out on the large scratches (they only wanted to replace the broken pieces but some of the scratches were the width of pieces). My husband thinks it now looks worse than when the brown cracks were showing through. Also once we did have all of the pieces and went to put it together we found the J piece that stabilizes the back was nowhere near the length it’s supposed to be (it also said there was a hole on one side for the wooden dowels, there wasn’t. So at this point my hubby was ready to trash it and call it a $197.09 loss (what we paid after taxes). But we troopered through and added brackets of our own to the back since the J piece is definitely totally useless. Also to consider, an adult hoodie is too long for the hanging section. I’ll be surprised if this lasts. Next time we move we definitely won’t bother trying to move it, it won’t hold up. Do not buy this unless you want to waste whatever the current price is. We’ll never buy anything buy this company again (as far as I can tell they sell under many names website is Ameriwood, manual for this is System Build, listing were we bought it was Room & Joy). If I thought Target would take it back without the original box and after we used the manufacturer’s “crayon” on the damaged pieces, I’d definitely go for a refund. Instead we’re just doing what we can to stabilize it and hide the damage.

We bought three of these originally, I just ordered two more. For the price, they are awesome. They are similar in quality to Ikea furniture, and kind of a pain to put together, but they were in good shape, and seem very sturdy. (The drawer is the only part that is not quite as sturdy/well-made, but honestly, at this price point, this thing is awesome!) My kids are stoked to have a place to hang all their junk for winter.

POOR QUALITY - the wood is particle board- took way too long to put together, the pieces do not align exactly bc they could not be screwed in all the way most of the time bc the cheap quality screws it came with were getting stripped before tightening all the way. It looks cheaper than it cost- would NOT recommend as i suspect this wont survive one year.
