So I do very little printing at home and never print in color. All of my color is depleted and I cannot use my printer at all. It clearly states 1500 pages on these cartridges yet I have filled the paper tray once since I bought this. I've always been happy with brother printers but this thing is ratchet. I will not be purchasing another brother after I throw this thing in a dumpster.

We understand your Brother LC406 cartridges did not last long. We'd like to help. The stated page yields for genuine Brother cartridges are based on the ISO testing standards. The number of pages that can be printed with a cartridge is affected by several factors, including paper size, number of pages per print job, amount of print on each page, font size, and print content (graphics, charts, etc.). Print jobs with large text fonts, graphics, charts, and/or large amount of solid coverage (black or any given color) will use much more ink and will shorten the life of the ink cartridge. I bought this standard Ink and was shocked that the entire Magenta color was gone for printing 50-60 full-color pages. This has to be improved by Brother otherwise I am going to kick this printer out from my home.

I don’t like being railroaded. I want to buy ink on MY TERMS, not on yours..To render the machine unusable for B&W printing and holding it hostage until you buy ink, because a certain color happens to be low, is out and out blackmail, and a horrendous, strong-armed business practice.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your feedback. The Brother Inkjets printers are designed to stop ALL printing operations when any of the ink cartridges have reached their end-of-life. This is to ensure the life of the printhead and to maintain premium print quality. Some ink from all the ink cartridges is used in periodic cleaning cycles. This helps to prevent issues such as printhead clogs and poor print quality. There is no way to bypass this feature. If one or more color ink cartridges are low but not at the end of their usable life and you want to minimize the use of color ink, change the settings in the Brother software to print with black ink only (grayscale). If you print with black ink only, the other ink cartridges must have ink for the printer to print. When an ink cartridge is depleted, you must replace it before you can print. If you print with black ink only, the printer may still use small amounts of ink from all the ink cartridges for occasional servicing tasks. Brother recommends that you replace any low ink cartridges to avoid any interruptions in printing. Over the years, we have had seven different printers for our home-based business. If the printer lasted past the warranty time, we were lucky. We now have a Brother. We give this printer five stars. Paper jams (usually my fault) are easy to resolve. Plenty of notice for low ink. Easy set-up. Most people only rate a product when they have a complaint. We decided to take a minute to give a thumbs up.
