Brother SE2100Di Disney 100th Anniversary Sewing and Embroidery Machine

It’s small enough that it doesn’t over power my craft desk yet mighty enough to tackle some large project! The added embroidery options made my 6 year old happy as I took all of her items and immediately embroider princesses on everything before our trip to Disney!!

Lol, I know I am a crazy weird person but I thought it was fitting as it is Disney. This embroidery machine works flawlessly and I would recommend to anyone in the market to get one.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this machine. I had never used an embroidery machine, but have a good amount of sewing experience on a regular machine and serger. This definitely has a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it it's very user friendly. I have been having a lot of fun learning and creating. I love using the app to freestyle designs, it translates really well to embroidery and is easy to do. Uploading new designs is really easy and there are multiple ways to do it. You do need windows for the brother desktop app, but you don't have to use that in order to upload designs which is great. I've needed to be in touch with Brother customer service a few times and they are excellent. I'm really looking forward to all I can make and do with this machine.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently got the Brother SE2100Di Disney 100th Anniversary Combo Sewing & Embroidery Machine. I must note that the machine is not for me. My sewing skills begin and end at simple stitching repairs for pants and the like. My wife, who is amazing all around, is the seamstress in our family. She’s skillful and loves sewing, crafting, and embroidery. The first part of this review is simply my out-of-the box, practical observations. The next, and more important portion, is her observations based on web, app, and machine use. If interested in the long version, please read on. TL;DR, please skip to the end. OOB you get the SE2100Di. At 9.5"D x 17.5"W x 12"H, this machine has a goodly-sized footprint and is “beefy,” i.e., well-made. While not overly heavy, it certainly has a “heft” to it, which signifies Brother quality. The machine comes with an online code that lets you download 100 Disney embroidery patterns, both vintage and more contemporary. It has 13 embroidery fonts and 241 sewing stitches. The ARTSPIRA mobile app lets you draw patterns on a mobile device (or download premade patterns) and send them to the SE2100Di through a wireless (local/LAN) connection. If you don’t want to connect the machine to your wireless network, you can also use the on-board USB port, after putting firmware/software updates, patterns, etc. on a USB stick, and install items that way. The machine has a 5”x7” embroidery field and, apparently, is super-smart in that it has Advanced Color Sort, which automatically adjusts the order in which multi-color embroidery designs are stitched (reducing color changes and saving thread) and Jump Stitch Trimming, which automatically trims excess thread jumps within a given color. The machine also has a nicely-executed 3.7” color touchscreen that lets you see your patterns and designs, while interacting with it (you can adjust touch sensitivity) to allow on-screen design editing, enhanced zoom, rotating, repositioning, and combining. With all this functionality, the SE2100Di (at least in the U.S.) still works on a standard 120 volt outlet. You get a host of accessories and stitching feet. You also get thorough, well-written instructions, complete with images. My wife struggled with app setup and machine registration. Admittedly, this process is more complicated than it should be. She told me, “like most websites and apps today, everything should be on the website and/or everything should be available in the app. It’s hard to have to use both the website and the app to get the machine registered, running, and to download and install new patterns. That part was confusing and frustrating.” But, once set up, and familiarized with how to approach downloading/editing patterns and sending them to the machine, via the app, she quickly became comfortable with the process. She also initially struggled with machine setup and discovered that she needed to read (and constantly refer to) the included instructions. Online videos, in conjunction with the instructions, will make life (at least as far as setup and use of this super-robust, very powerful machine) much easier. Search for Brother SE2100 to find online videos. Note that the machine comes from the factory with the sewing arm and foot installed. We both learned the hard way, after breaking a needle and having to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to get the well-jammed needle out of the needle holder, that, before embroidering, you must remove the sewing arm and foot, and install the embroidery arm, no foot. The arm (along with other sewing feet) is/are found in a storage area in the removable embroidery platform. A notable feature, this machine self-threads. Once you put the thread in the thread holder, you pull enough thread out and wind the thread along a clearly-numbered “path.” At the end of the path (which is on the outermost side of the left of the machine’s housing), you “flick” a switch and the Brother self-threads the needle. Awesome. After ensuring you have proper thread, cloth, backer, and pattern set-up, you hit the start button, and away the machine goes. I was awestruck by how the machine just “knew” exactly where to stitch what, when to cut thread and how to pick back up and keep running from where it stopped. The patterns are endless, what it can do is nothing short of magic. My wife was embroidering pillowcases and other things all day and much of the night. She was in love with this thing. The biggest complaint she had was that the machine sometimes “skips” a stitch, which resulted in the need to go back over the missed area, by making the machine “double-layer” the stitch, and stopping the machine, manually cutting thread, after it covered the missed area. Any other issues really came down to using the wrong thread type/cheaper thread… so, user error. After trying the many available onboard patterns, my wife attempted to find the Disney patterns. A registration card came with the machine, which had a QR code that pointed you to the download location. No matter what we tried, we could not get the download to work. We contacted customer service. Ultimately, a customer service rep, Emily, worked some magic on the backend to ensure we had access to the 100 free Disney patterns. Yes, there are free and pay patterns you can download from the Brother site. But, they are not the same as the 100 promised as part of the purchase. Emily was apologetic, polite, and super helpful. She even followed up with us, linking us to Brother-supported videos that would show us how best to use the machine. Emily went above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction… a 5 out of 5 for Emily and Brother customer service. Worth purchasing? My wife didn’t like the registration and setup experience. She also didn’t like how the machine occasionally skipped a stitch. Despite the issues, she noted that she loves the Brother SE2100Di and the endless possibilities. She was impressed with all it can do and the fact that it was backed by customer service that offered a personal touch to make sure we got the Disney patterns that are supposed to come with the machine. As noted in the review, she was embroidering all day and much of the first night. When asked for her rating, out of five stars, she gave the Brother SE2100Di a 4.5. Knowing that there aren’t half-star ratings, she said a very solid 4-star would be fine. So, four stars it is. As such, I can recommend the Brother SE2100Di as a super impressive, well-accompanied machine that simply works magic, making it a solid purchase that will definitely up your sewing and embroidery game.

It was easy to set up and there is a lot of great pre-programmed designs to choose from. The embroidery app is also very easy to use and straightforward. I like the hoop size as well.

This machine not only works great for my daily sewing needs, I enjoy the functionality of the embroidery for making small gifts from time to time. On top of that, the Disney theme fits perfectly in my household with young kids who are in love with everything Disney related! It even connects wirelessly to the Brother mobile app which allows me to customize and design many different products! It is made of high quality material just like any Brother product you would expect. Totally recommend to a first time stitcher or even a experienced one looking to add another high quality product to their inventory!

The instruction booklet is useful but I found online videos to be easier to understand. One tip is to buy transfer paper for the clothing so that the fabric stays in place while the machine embroiders. I spend hours making clothing with this machine.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m a crafty girl who loves to make personalized gifts. My go to has been a cutting machine and iron-on for towels and t-shirts. But my dream has been an embroidery machine because thread won’t wash off or peel like heat transfer vinyl. This Brother machine is the best! It’s a sewing machine with all the bells and whistles but it also embroiders on a huge 5 x 7 hoop. It has a digital screen on the side and not only does it have some patterns built into the machine, but it also can connect wirelessly to your computer or ipad. This allows you to send .pes files directly to the unit. The manual was helpful, but since I am more of a visual learner, finding videos on YouTube was more my speed. They did include several QR codes that directed me to videos too. There is an app called Artspira with some designs and also a feature where you can draw and make your own design. It was difficult to draw but they did have some cute premade designs for free. It came with several needle sizes and white embroidery thread for the bottom bobbin as well as extra bobbins and different foot attachments for all your sewing needs. They even included a seam ripper and embroidery scissors. This machine is truly top of the line, and does everything. It even has a knee lifter! It took me a few days to gather up my supplies, and courage, and make my first embroidery project, a Halloween tea towel. Overall it turned out pretty good once I figured out how to get a computer file sent to the machine. My only complaint is that I thought the Disney machine came with some Disney digital content, but the only Disney item I found in the box was a 100 anniversary sticker to decorate the screen area. I still have a lot to learn and so many questions on if I can remove portions of a design, upload more fonts, etc… but I think once I become more familiar with the ins and outs of digital embroidery, this machine is going to meet all my needs and expectations.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is so easy to set up and use. I am a newbie to sewing and I was able to set this up and use it. It was way easier than my old sewing machine. I also tried the embroidery as well and it was so fast. I can't wait to try and embroider my husband's work shirt next time he needs them done. My only complaint would be that I registered the product when setting it up, then I was told to register it to get the 100 free downloaded images but since I already registered it I wasn't able to get the downloads.

And has many upgrades to a sewing machine, this one offers both in one. The only dissapointing thing I came across was that my Disney designs after a few calls I received them but was not able to use them I became very discouraged and frustrated since I wanted to make disney designs for my children. There is many platforms for free and low cost designs to use on the machine. I love that you can send the design wireless and theough usb very handy I use both computer and cell phone to send over files. We encountered a few problems because I did not put the thread correctly but as we go along we learn something new. It is very important to read through the directions and manuals to better assist us with any new product. Many options to use the bobbins it offerd 2 bobbin cases it's amazing all that comes included. I have always dreamed of owning a brother embroidery machine, it will take time but we will learn everything we need to be perfect. There is great customer service help online and over the phone for issues Just have to reach the correct department. I do love that my design thread gets cut on its own no need to cut around, we love it so far so good, just wish we did have the dosney designs.

The Brother SE2100 has been perfect as I learn more. The setup was easy, with each feature thoroughly described in the accompanying pamphlet, as well as online. I enjoy Disney, so it is exciting that there are hundreds of embroidery designs that are integrated with this machine. Although I have not used this specific Brother machine for very long, it has exceeded my expectations in terms of durability and quality. There is a good weight to it, without complicating its transportability. The different stitches, threading and embroideries I have learned on this device were far easier to complete than I anticipated. This is a machine that, with proper care, will last many decades. I would recommend this machine as beginner-friendly and for experienced sewers. It is wonderful.

The updated screen makes it easy to edit and select your designs or Word Fonts. When I first opened the box I looked at the packet of instruction booklets and in them there was a page with a code for a bunch of free Disney embroidery designs along with many other additional designs from the Brother Brand. All of the designs selected are so cool and very detailed. What exited me most about this product was not only the fact of it being Disney Themed but also because it was both a combination of sewing and embroidery which makes my creativity limitless! It is wireless which is definitely a plus for me I can't stand plugs love the updated technology this brand has to offer. Of course it did take some time for me to learn how to do my first stitch since I am new to this and you need to switch the color threads throughout the process but with the instructions and online help from brother it was not bad at all and I was able to create my first stitch. The machine requires alot of patience it took me a few days just to get the hang of setting it up and tightening pieces and setting things properly and im not gonna lie it will be frustrating at first if you are not using their free tutorials and guides so make sure you use those or look up some youtube videos for extra guidence but after you get the hang of it its totally worth it. Youll be able to design your own clothes for outings for example Disneyland! There's an app also that you can download and use to learn more about the product and how you can purchase more designs or create your own which is my most favorite thing about it. It's much faster than by hand and can make some of the most complicated designs into a real peice of art. I really enjoy the low sound it makes compared to the older sowing machines my grandma used to have when I was little. I reccomend this machine over many of the other options it's definitely worth it!

However, all the instructions do a great job of explaining everything. I am a Disney nut so I was very excited that this is a special Disney 100th anniversary edition! I can’t wait to download the included Disney designs. For all that this machine can do Brother has done an amazing job of keeping the machine small enough to move around easily. All the feet are neatly store in the machine itself. This seamlessly transitions from a sewing machine to the embroidery attachment simply by removing the sewing machine base and attaching the embroidery base. The full color LCD screen is amazing and a great size to be able to view and edit all your projects. There are so many built in stitches and embroidery designs and with the built in Wi-Fi you can easily transfer any patter you want to the machine. Whether you are a part time or a full time crafter this machine is great regardless. The stitching it does is beautiful and I cannot wait to keep creating the list of projects I have already!!!
