I really wanted to love this book. I first became acquainted with Dave Canterbury on the Dual Survival T.V. show. Lately, I've been following him on YouTube and Instagram. The man is a verifiable expert in the field of outdoor skills. But I'm sorry to say, he cannot write. I previously ordered his 4-book Buschraft series as a boxed set, and ended up returning it in the hopes that this new illustrated volume would make up for the inadequacies that I found in those books. While there are a few new ideas and concepts (that the illustrations help greatly) in the new illustrated volume, overall I find it wanting. First thing to miss the mark is the proofreading: there are several glitches in the text, and in more than one instance the wrong illustration has been inserted for the topic being covered.
Full marks for the man and his knowledge, but 3 stars is the best I can give his books. I'll stick with watching him on YouTube, where he really shines.
