About the Author



ARAN GOYOAGA is a cookbook author, blogger, food stylist, and photographer. Aran was born and raised in the Basque Country, in northern Spain, where her maternal grandparents owned a pastry shop and her paternal grandparents live off the land. Her blog, Cannelle et Vanille, is a two-time James Beard Award finalist. Her first book, Small Plates & Sweet Treats, was named one of the top cookbooks of 2012 by Sara Moulton on Good Morning America and praised by the New York Times and GOOP. It was featured on Amazon's homepage as a "Pick" for May 2016.

Aran's Instagram is a world-renowned culinary account, lauded by Food & Wine, In Style, The Kitchn, and more. This book is hands down the best book I've ever used for gluten baking. The chocolate chip cookies are probably the best I've ever had, GF or no. I'm a chocolate chip cookie snob, as well as a pastry school graduate, so my standards or pretty high. 😊 The profiteroles (ie cream puffs/eclairs) are also incredible, and I'd say just as good as their non-GF counterparts. I like this book so much I bought both a hardback and digital copy. One of the great things about it is that many of the recipes don't require xanthan gum, which I prefer not to bake with. If you are looking for gluten free recipes, or just want to try out some different flours and improve your baking skills by working with different ingredients, I couldn't recommend this book more highly.

Aran’s cookbooks have quite literally been life changing! Since using her recipes, I’ve grown to love GF baking even more than traditional baking. In my opinion, this is the only gluten free baking cookbook you would ever need.

I've loved Aran Goyoaga's recipes since I stumbled upon her blog, Cannelle Et Vanille, many years ago. Then, I bought her first cookbook and made things from it constantly, especially during the pandemic when I had extra time to cook. Now, I'm obsessed with her new cookbook, Cannelle et Vanille Bakes Simple. I made the sweet potato cake with cream cheese icing today and it exceeded my expectations. It's so delicious and, as an added perk, good for you with no refined sugar or gluten. That's what I love about Aran's recipes: They're easy and healthful without sacrificing flavor. I'd recommend this cookbook to anyone, whether you're gluten-free or not. I'm not gluten-free, but I cook from Aran's cookbooks regularly because everything is delicious, and my boyfriend and I notice that we feel better after we eat the dishes I make from her recipes.

Truly game changing GF bakes. I was so sick of buying GF cookbooks that tell you to buy their GF flour blend only to bake with it and have the recipe fail or be painfully bland and predictable. Taking the time to invest in the GF flours (it’s actually not that much!) and weigh out my ingredients on a scale in combination with these recipes have truly upped my GF baking from boring recipes to interesting and delicious bakes. I was so scared of working with yeasted dough before Aran - now I’m successfully doing dough-based recipes at least once a week! This is going to be my go to Christmas present thing year for all my friends (GF and non GF) - and it should be yours too!
