Q&A(3)

Q: Is this a reflecting telescope? I can't seem to find that information regarding this model.

submitted by TR - 5 years ago
  • A: Yes, this telescope is a refractor. In fact just to give you a little bit more info, refracting telescopes are pretty close to being the strongest type out there. Cassegrain telescopes, are by far the best out there because of the magnification and quality needed to produce a clear image. You'll spend anywhere from $100-10,000,000 on these. But refractors are a great option for beginners or anything else.

  • A: The Celestron Travel Scope Portable Telescope with Basic Smartphone Adapter is a refractor telescope that uses lenses, not a mirror to gather light. Sincerely, Garrett at Celestron

Q: Can you suggest a telescope for a 7yr old boy who is a bit smart. Just starting to look at stars.

submitted by Jen - 5 years ago
  • A: The Celestron Travel Scope is a lightweight telescope that can be used for both terrestrial and celestial observing. It makes for a good starter telescope for a child. As he gets older and becomes more serious about astronomy, there are many other telescope models that will fit his observing needs. You can view these telescopes at www.celestron.com

  • A: This is a fantastic option for a young boy, it's cheap, affordable and not kind of trashy. However if your looking to get him something that isnt this affordable If I may, i suggest looking at Meade - Infinity 80mm Altazimuth Refractor Telescope.
