Q: Do you think this could be used outside like a mini camp chair/booster seat? I know the directions say "only dining chairs", but what practical applications does this have outside of that? How about the floor? Also, what approximate ages is this for?

submitted by Emery - 4 years ago
  • A: Do NOT use this booster seat as a standalone chair, it can only be used when combined with a full sized dining room table chair. Do NOT use on any elevated surface other than a full sized dining room chair. Use only with children capable of sitting upright unassisted. Do not use for children weighing more than 50 lbs (23 kg).

  • A: In case anyone else is wondering this, Chicco is not just saying that for no reason. This chair is VERY TIPPY if you use it on the ground.

submitted byLiz - 2 years ago
  • A: Used this for ten month old on a picnic. She was strapped in the seat, on the ground. It was great. I do not know how it would tip over. Obviously, you never leave a child unattended.

Q: Can this be used on the floor or must it be strapped to a chair?

it's practical, easy to carry, light... but a pain to clean and wash. The straps get stained and pretty much disgusting after a couple of uses and there is no way of deep cleaning them. Such a pity...

Do NOT buy this with your registry discount!

To summarize, I do not reccomend this product. But if you still want to give it a try, do not buy it until your baby is ready to use it! I made the mistake of buying it before mine was born using the registry discount, and then when I finally used it for the first time when he was about 6 months old, I realized it sucks, but it was already past the return window. Target would not take it back, not even for store credit. So, I kept using it since I wasted my money on it, and let me tell you, I keep finding more things to hate about it! First of all I have to say, this CAN NOT be used as a standalone chair. I bought it because it looks so similar to those baby camp chairs by the brand Summer, but is wipable which is so much better for babies. But once I read the manual it says it can only be used on a full-sized chair, and they are not lying! It is VERY tippy if you try to use it on the floor, so DON'T. Probably the worst thing about it is that it's basically useless as a booster chair for us! When it's at its lowest, it is 2" off the chair, which of course does not help your baby or toddler reach the table. But when I raise it up to height level 1 (the lowest elevated height!), it does not fit under the table! So you can't scoot it in so your kid doesn't spill all over his lap. So its basically only works with the tray. And as others have said, the tray is hard to get on, but that does get easier over time, until of course your baby grows and you need to adjust it, then it's hard all over again. The bump thing on the bottom of the tray to help keep the baby in is annoying because water gets trapped inside when you wash it. I try not to think about how much bacteria is growing in there. Its portability isn't even much of a plus since I've transported regular booster chairs without any problems. If you want to attach the tray while it's folded in order to transport them both together, the annoying buldge means it has to hang off the edge, nearly doubling the length of it and also preventing you from using the handle on the seat back. There is another, albiet inferior, handle on the back though. And the buttons that you press to fold it are in the worst possible spot for something that's being used by a messy baby. They're right there on the arm rests, where your baby loves to rest his goopy fingers. Have fun cleaning that out! Along with all the other cracks and crevices on those arm rests! The last annoying thing I discovered about this is that it is incredibly difficult to remove the straps to wash them. Our son had a bad blowout in it so the straps definitley needed to be laundered. Well first of all, you need a phillips screwdriver to remove the crotch strap! And I hope you have a flathead screwdriver too, because my husband had to use one of those to push the other straps through the teeny tiny slits to remove those. It was like a half-hour job just to get the straps off. And be careful when you put them back on so you don't put it the wrong way, because you do not want to go through all that again! This is like the least user-friendly booster chair I've ever seen. I don't think that straps that are easy to remove is too much to ask for on something that will obviuously get full of at least food, if not worse! This seat definitley sacrifices usability for the appearance of portability.

Thank you Liz for taking the time to share this detailed experience with the booster seat. You are correct, this booster is not designed to sit on the floor. It does need to be attached to a chair for the safety of the baby. We are sorry to hear that it does not allow your baby to sit up to the table without the tray. The comments about cleaning the tray, straps and booster have all been shared with our Product Managers for future design considerations.

We bought this for our toddler. The tray is crazy hard to get on and off. As far as the quality of materials it is A+. However, quality versus ease of use not even comparable. Would not recommend.

The paint from the logo suddenly started smearing and got all over my baby’s hands. Such a health hazard !!!! Also the tray is ridiculously hard to put on. I have to not only watch out so the sides don’t pinch my baby’s arms but the foot area so it doesn’t smash his leg . This was gifted to us , So disappointed!!!

Great chair!

We love this high chair/booster seat! Our babe used this as soon as she could, around 8 months old, and has used it ever since. So portable and can fit on any chair, any place. The only two reasons they don't get two stars is because the straps do not come off for cleaning, and even though we wipe down the chair and straps after every meal, they are starting to smell quite funky. The other reason is that it is not good as a lawn chair, as it tips very easily if it isn't strapped to anything. Other than that, we love it and are very happy with the purchase.

If using this not attached to a chair it tips pretty easily. Also, the tray is wicked hard to snap on. And it won’t let you put it on the last latch due to the white buttons that get pushed in to fold. So my baby won’t be able to use it for long due to it not giving her more belly room. Going to try and return it.

The Pocket Snack is designed to be secured to an adult chair using the safety straps. Please always follow the use instructions and secure the booster seat with the safety straps. The tray is designed to be a tight snap fit so it stays in place during use.

Baby hazard !! Harness straps are not secure enough. Baby could just slip through the slots.

The Pocket Snack Booster Seat complies with all federal standards for booster seats in the USA. When used properly, the seat will safely provide an appropriate means of boosting a child seated on an adult chair.

Easy to Travel

Samantha G. - 4 years ago

This seat is great for traveling. It folds up flat and can easily be squeezed in your car. I wish it had more adjustable heights. The 2nd height is too high for my 10 month old baby to have his feet on the chair but the 1st height is too low (level with chair). We will certainly bring this on trips but it will not replace our everyday high chair.

The Chicco logo is health hazard for a child, it smears and comes off

1 out of 5 stars
Rc - 4 years ago, Verified purchaser
I like this booster chair but the only negative, the logo comes off. I notice paint smears on my child’s table when she was eating, I hope my little one did not ingest the paint. So for the safety of our child we erase the logo by scrubbing oil on it. I would like to buy another one to give it as a gift for our almost two year old cousin but with the logo issue, no thanks.

I love this little chair when my Grandbaby visits. It’s a little unstable with the legs unfolded if baby leans over but legs easily fold flat making it more stable. Folds up easily for storage.

We love using this booster seat as our everyday high chair for my toddler daughter. We have also used it several times away from home, from vacations to friends' houses to grandparents'. It's easy to pack up, and has fit every chair that we've used it on. We would definitely recommend it.
