Quite an Exciting Romantic Suspense!

4 out of 5 stars
Rebecca Maney - 3 years ago
3.5 stars "Ainsley Beaumont had at least nine lives, and she'd about used up all of them." It seemed that everywhere Investigative Services Branch Ranger Ainsley Beaumont went, someone was literally taking a shot at her. . . . and she wasn't even at home in Tennessee, Ainsley was currently on assignment in Natchez, Mississippi, where she grew up. Knowing that Ainsley was familiar with the area, she had been sent to Natchez to investigate the tragic death of a pregnant teen-age girl on park property. What she found was a masculine distraction, a great aunt who had been vandalized, confusing family history, and more loose ends in her case than she could count. Did she dare admit that she was glad former FBI sniper, turned interpretive ranger, Lincoln Steele was going to assist her? Maybe. After all, they certainly had history. "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor, If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up." This story had multiple scenarios playing out within its pages, and layers upon layers of backstories which ultimately culminated into a really good book. Nothing added up until it did, nobody wanted to tell the truth until they had to, nowhere remained safe for very long and practically no one proved trustworthy; even those who should have been. Fans of romantic suspense and in particular this author, might naturally conclude that this is one of her best books to date.

Crosshairs by Patricia Bradley is the third book in her Natchez Trace Park Rangers series. ISB ranger Ainsley Beaumont returns to her hometown to investigate the murder of a teenager. While working the case with Lincoln Steele, Ainsley ends up in the crosshairs of the murderer. Can Linc protect her against this unseen threat? Wow, this book was action-packed. You never knew what was coming next, and the twist at the end was such a surprise! I love a story where the author can surprise you; and this one did not disappoint! I received this book from the Publisher for my honest review.

I can honestly say Patricia Bradley is my favorite mystery author for books written in the South. I love the way she portrays the people, the scenery, and just our culture as Southern people. Makes me feel right at home with her books. Crosshairs is the third installment in her Natchez Trace Park Rangers series, and let me tell you, it was epic! With every book, the action just dials up even more!! I like how ISB ranger Ainsley Beaumont is portrayed realistically, and with flaws. She does her job well, and cares about the victim's families she is investigating for. She cares for her great aunt, who was mysteriously injured while working on her book depicting a real life family mystery. She has relationship & trust issues with both her dad, and her former boyfriend Lincoln Steele, but that pales in comparison to what's going on now. Ainsley finds out someone is stalking her, but she doesn't know who or why. What she does know, however, is that no one near her is safe. Lincoln Steele is a former FBI agent with trauma issues, and is now working a job as a Natchez Trace Park interpretive ranger and investigator, giving tours of historical Southern mansions to tourists. He and Ainsley have a painful past, and find they must investigate a suspected murder case together in spite of that. Will they find the past can be mended, or will they get hurt again? I received this book free from the publisher, courtesy of Interviews and Reviews for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Fantastic Romantic Suspense

5 out of 5 stars
Connie Saunders - 3 years ago
A terrible storm, an elderly woman in danger because someone is searching for a missing diary from the 1870s, and a cover that suggests that danger is present! These are all promising signs that a great story is in store, and this book has this from the very beginning. Ainsley Beaumont and Lincoln Steele find themselves together again, after many years apart, as they're drawn into an investigation that may involve more than just a current-day murder. The missing diary increases the intrigue, and Ainsley and Lincoln's previous relationship adds to the personal interest of this well-written romantic suspense. They both carry hurts from their pasts, but there is certainly a smoldering spark waiting to be ignited. Is there still a chance for them, if they can survive the danger that awaits them? Crosshairs is another example of Patricia Bradley's ability to capture a reader's attention and keep them invested until the very end. Ainsley's trust issues and her troubled relationship with her father have caused her to question God, but Linc's strong faith is like a beacon for her. A touching faith message, mysterious happenings, and several twists and turns make this a thrilling story that I couldn't put down. Crosshairs is a great addition to the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series, and I look forward to book four. I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

Well Written with Plots, Subplots and Great Setting

5 out of 5 stars
VickleaW - 3 years ago
With a well-written plot and sub-plots that all come together in the end, this is a book not to be missed by fans of romantic suspense. Ainsley Beaumont is an investigator for the park rangers and a target of more than one be killer. Her former boyfriend is a former FBI sniper who wants to keep her safe but doesn’t know how he can when he doesn’t want to use a gun ever again. There are a lot of details about the characters and the setting that really made the story totally intriguing. The sub-plot about her aunt’s missing diaries was an absorbing mystery by itself. The main plot is the danger that Ainsley is facing daily and her determination to keep working on the murder of the teen in spite of her own peril. I enjoyed the way the author presented the viewpoint of the killer at regular intervals, giving me a glimpse into his mind and his next plans for Ainsley’s demise. There was a big surprise twist at the end that I totally enjoyed and did not see coming. Although this book is part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone. I am part of the Revell Reads Blogger Program so I received an advanced copy of this book. Nevertheless, all opinions are my own.

Engaging

I had been anxiously awaiting a new Patricia Bradley mystery/romantic suspense novel. She did not disappoint with Crosshairs. The story begins with the assault of Ainsley Beaumont's great aunt and Ainsley's investigation, as an Investigative Services Branch ranger, into the murder of a teen aged girl. Along the way Ainsley comes under attack multiple times, and new lines of investigation come into play. Crosshairs is a highly engaging book that brings hours of reading enjoyment. Now begins the wait for Bradley's next release. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Non-stop action!

5 out of 5 stars

You destroyed my trust, and once trust is lost, it’s hard to get back. What a wonderful story that begins with murder and ends with lost love - or so it seems. Ainsley Beaumont is a Special Agent with the Park Rangers. Her specialty is investigation and she has come to find out who killed a beautiful young lady named Hannah. The mystery and intrigue will keep you on the edge of your seat, trying to figure out who the perpetrator is. Just to make it more interesting, the author throws in some long standing family secrets that yield all kinds of interesting tidbits, but would they lead to yet another murder? Betrayal leads to revenge, but can redemption bring hope and renewed trust? Book #3 in the Natchez Park Rangers series will not be easily set aside. This reader appreciates the opportunity to access an ARC through Revell, Baker Publishing Group and NetGalley. These impressions and comments are my own and were in no way solicited.

Must Read

Thumbs up graphic, would recommend

This is the third book in a four book series called “Natchez Trace Park Rangers”. The novel starts out with one mysterious suspect of a crime and not long after you find out about another crime that was recently committed which leads you to wonder if they are connected. Patricia Bradley does an excellent job of making you feel as if you are right there in the story instead of an outsider looking in. You feel almost as though you are the character to whom you are reading about. Each scene of this book is carefully set. I like how the author had short chapters because it makes the book feel like a faster read. Also, because the book is so good and has a lot of suspense, it reads pretty fast anyway. The interactions between the two main characters are well written and their back story makes in all the more interesting to read. I also found myself very fond of the two older women in the story to whom are related to the main female character. Overall, I would say this is an awesome romantic suspense that anyone would enjoy. Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in order to give an honest review.
