The handles are plastic and break. I didn't bang it, I did nothing rough with it to have cracked. This could be so dangerous if it breaks while I'm chopping. Will be searching for knives with a sturdier base. I've only had these for a year and were a wedding gift.

So far this new set that replaced my old set due to the old set on the steak knives had the saw tooth type teeth. They are terrible and will not buy them again. Returned them under warranty and bought this set with the steak knives being the smooth blade. They are so much better. When you are paying this much money for a set of knives they should cut thru anything.

This was a gift from my employer. The knives are really nice and they seem like they will hold up well but, my past experience with riveted knives was not the greatest; the blades on my last riveted set came loose from the rivets. My most recent set of knives were all one-piece knives (handle/blade) and they held up great. My riveted set were not Cuisinart knives so I cannot really compare my last riveted set to my new Cuisinart set.
