really thrilling!

I really enjoyed this "Rocky Mountain Courage" book. It followed main character Erin as she tries to deal with current traumatic experiences along with flashbacks from long ago. I liked reading about Nathan and Erin as they explore a possible relationship again as they sort out their feelings. The two of them find themselves working together on cold cases and trying to figure out what is going on with Nathan‘s father and his accident. This fast pace story had lots of action, great characters, unpredictable ending with twists and turns. Loved it although it was a little complicated. This can be read as a stand alone story. I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

Wow! Just Wow!

A criminal psychologist, a local detective, missing children, and a cold case investigation.... each time I read a book by Elizabeth Goddard, I think it's her best, but I believe that Deadly Target is TRULY her best yet! This story begins with an easy, soothing kayak ride down the Puget Sound but don't be fooled---this is the last easy, soothing scene you will encounter. Goddard transports readers into an electrifying adventure filled with danger, suspense, and numerous questions needing to be answered. Surprises, multiple twists-and-turns, and family secrets make this a book that I couldn't put down, and there's an unexpected development that I didn't see coming. There are also great characters, and I was especially drawn to Erin Larson and Nathan Campbell, two people who carry deep wounds from their youth and also share a painful romantic break-up. Will they become more than just two professionals caught up in a deadly cold case investigation? Deadly Target is primarily set in Montana and even though it's the second book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series, it can easily be read as a standalone. Are you in the mood for a clean romance? Look no further. Searching for a thrilling suspense novel with a strong faith element? This is the book for you! I highly recommend Deadly Target and I look forward to the next book in this series! I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. There was absolutely no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

A Thrill Ride

5 out of 5 stars

If Deadly Target by Elizabeth Goddard were a thrill ride it would be one of the best rides ever. It's non stop action right from the get go with lots of unexpected tunnels that you don't know which way they will twist and turn. Great character development, thrilling suspense and just enough love interest to keep you hanging on. A criminal psychologist being targeted and a deputy sheriff with a deep heart wound thrown back together to solve a crime is a terrific combo of tension and suspense. Deadly Target was hard to put down to go to bed. Love a book I can't wait to get back to the next day. Also if you haven't read the first one in the Rocky Mountain Courage series Present Danger grab that one as well. You won't be disappointed. I was given a complimentary copy but my opinion is my own.

Great edge-of-the-seat mystery

5 out of 5 stars

Elizabeth Goddard has done it again...another wow-I-did-not-see-that-coming kind of book. Having read the first book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series, I knew what to expect, and was not disappointed. The story starts out with an intentional boating collision and the edge-of-the-seat action continues until the end of the story. The characters are colorful and riveting, as well as realistic and either likable, relatable, or despicable. It was nice to catch up with a few of the characters from the first book in the series, Present Danger. Erin and Nathan had been involved in circumstances previously, and things did not end well. I enjoyed watching their relationship begin again and evolve into more than colleagues solving a couple of cold cases that might be related. I like how the author revealed things layer by layer, keeping me wondering how scenarios were ever going to work out. And when the truth was finally revealed it was quite surprising. Readers who love exciting, heart-stopping mysteries will not want to miss Deadly Target. It kept me eagerly reading until the very last page. I am sure hoping there is another book to come in the series. I won an advanced reading copy of the book through LibraryThing and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

Fun Fiction

Erin almost loses her life in a boating accident with her friend. Then she goes to be with her mother who tried to commit suicide. She is staying with her mother in Montana. In walks her former boyfriend, Nathan. Any time they are together trouble is following them. Who is after Nathan? Or are they after Erin? Was her mom‘s attempted suicide legitimate? Elizabeth Goddard will have you on the edge of your seat. I’m not sure I was completely ready for all of the twists and turns in the book Deadly Target. It is definitely an interesting tale. This was a fun suspense fiction read. I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review which I was happy to do. I would recommend Deadly Target.

Suspense! Romance! An excellent entry in the Rocky Mountain Courage series

*I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review* Elizabeth Goddard Elizabeth Goddard's second entry in the Rocky Mountain Courage series did not disappoint! From the very first chapter, the reader is drawn into the story. Along with Erin Larsen, you begin to sort through the clues, trying to uncover all the hidden secrets that abound in this story; to seek for the evil hiding in plain sight. Fast paced, moving from the Rocky Mountains to the east coast- with danger appearing at every turn, Erin and Nathan find themselves piecing together a puzzle. Nathan's father's last words before a gunshot rang out, spur Nathan to pursue the cold case his father was looking into, " Lives are at stake". Along the way, Nathan and Erin find themselves drawing closer to each other once again. Although they split many years ago, their hearts still yearn for each other. Will they be able to overcome what separated them before and find true happiness together? Or will the evil from the past separate them forever? This book was a page turner that I could not put down. Elizabeth has created characters that are real and that the reader begins to care about immediately. The story moves quickly, and it was impossible to put the book down once I began reading it.

Erin and Nathan are in a fight for their lives as they try to solve the cold case Nathan's dad was working on. There is danger at every turn. I really enjoyed this story, it was full of suspense and danger and even though I thought I knew who the villain was, I was wrong. The story is full of danger, romance, and mystery. It is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I actually liked this one better than the first book.

Deadly Target is another fast-paced, exciting, romantic suspense novel from Elizabeth Goddard. This is an enjoyable read with the romantic aspect being my favorite part of the story. If you're a lover of romantic suspense give this one a try! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.

3.5 stars "Evil wouldn't let her forget that it existed, even for a few hours." It sure seemed that way. After narrowly escaping what appeared to be an attempt on her life, criminal psychologist Erin Larson gets the news that her mother attempted to end her own life; the information being relayed by the man she left behind all those years ago, Nathan Campbell. Apparently, life was sending Erin back to Montana, her mother needed her. If she ended up staying longer than expected, her full-time job might be in jeopardy, but her recently established "Missing Children" podcast could continue from any state. "Fishing. Rock climbing. Fishing. Baseball. Fishing." Nathan Campbell's father had shown up in Big Rapids, Montana for the first time in seven years, and while it appeared that he was going to enjoy fishing with his son, there was something else on his mind. Newt Campbell had just begun sharing that "something else", a cold case he was investigating for a friend, when a bullet ended the conversation. What in the world had just happened? Talk about a trail with multiple switchbacks, this story sports numerous versions of itself in a concerted effort to uncover the truth. How could criminal activity spanning thousands of miles and decades of time, spin such a sticky web in the town of Big Rapids, Montana? And caught right smack in the middle of it all? Erin and Nathan. A fast paced romantic suspense with an ending that I dare you to see coming!

Thrilling and Inspiring Romantic Susoense!

5 out of 5 stars
Paty Hinojosa - 3 years ago
Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2021 Wow! What a page turner! This book had me on the edge of my seat from page one! From the moment Criminal Psychologist Erin Larson and her friend Carissa have a mysterious boating accident that could have ended their lives, to the next second when Erin’s ex, Nathan Campbell, calls her to tell her that her mother had a suicide attempt, I couldn’t put the book down! Erin leaves her job to take care of her mother in Montana. She continues with her Podcast Missing Children, where she focuses on solving missing persons cold cases. Nathan’s father surprisingly reappears in his life after many years of absence and little contact, only to take him fishing, confessing him about a cold case he is working on and how lives are at stake, and to trust no one, and suddenly he is getting shot in the head. While fighting for his life in the ICU, Nathan determines to investigate what his father was talking about and who may have tried to kill him. There’s only one person, who’s back in town, and with expertise in the camp, Erin. So, he turns to her. Erin is trying to figure out the motives behind her mother’s suicide attempt, and something is not adding up. Together, she and Nathan will try to uncover dangerous secrets that may cost them their lives. But they both have also secrets of their past that they must bring to light if they truly want to make a team, trust each other, and maybe let their old flame bloom again, as it was meant to be… This was an amazing story! The plot was so captivating, with so many twists and turns, so many suspicious characters, that I couldn’t put it down trying to discover by myself who was the true criminal or criminals. The author definitely had some surprises coming my way. I have to say there were things that I didn’t expect and made the story even more unputdownable! The characters were relatable and loveable! I loved how their relationship rekindles. And how Nathan grows more and more protective of Erin. The romance was clean, yet swoony! They really were, not only a perfect team but a perfect match! And Erin was so relatable too, her courage and determination to do what’s right, to bring out the light, and put herself in dangers way for other’s sake. There’s also a faith inspired message throughout the story about trusting God with the direction of your life and to trust Him to be Bigger than evil and capable of bring good out of the pain and bad things that happen to us. It made me think and reflect about my own trust in God. Also about forgiveness and giving second chances. Definitely a story I highly recommend! If you can read Present Danger first, I suggest it, even if this book stands completely alone, but you get a richer experience if you start from the first. This second story surpasses even the first one, which I already loved! A must edge of your seat inspirational read! I received a complimentary copy from the Publisher but wasn’t required to post a positive review. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Deadly Target by Elizabeth Goddard is the second book in her Rocky Mountain Courage series. In one afternoon, Erin Lawson almost gets killed in a boating accident and then learns her mom has tried to commit suicide. While caring for her mom she is able to work on her podcast that focuses on missing person cold cases. Nathan Campbell needs Erin’s help to solve the cold case that his father was working on before he was shot. As they dig for answers, they become the next targets. This was a very suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat book! I stayed up way to late so I could finish it. The twist at the end was very surprising. Erin and Nathan were a great couple, they complemented each other very well. I received this book from the author for my honest review.

I couldn’t wait to read Deadly Target, the second book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series! I really enjoyed reading Present Danger (book 1) earlier this year and loved it as well. Deadly Target is just as engaging as the previous story. I connected with Erin. I really enjoyed the peek into her life as a criminal psychologist, her family life, and her past relationship with police detective Nathan. Erin and Nathan are incredibly easy to relate to and root for, although I could’ve shaken them both at times. Their investigation is fast-paced and had me surprised and at the edge of my seat countless times. I loved the romance, the action, and the spiritual actions of this story, as well as the satisfying ending! This is a clean, action-packed story, with a steady stream of faith. A win! Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book. My review was not influenced.

Great Suspense

5 out of 5 stars

This book was so hard to put down. I had no clue what could possibly happen next, and I loved every minute of it. Goddard took my by surprise with many unexpected twists and turns I couldn’t see coming. It was interesting following Erin and Nathan as they worked together to try and solve a long past cold case. But the cold case seems to have ties to today, and someone doesn’t want them alive to figure it out. Will past hurts and grudges keep them from solving what may be their most important case to date? I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Romantic Suspense. There was just the right combination of edge of your seat suspense and sigh worthy romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishers and was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Deadly Target is an edge-of-your-seat read. I finished it in two days, anxious to discover answers to this multi-faceted mystery. Abductions, explosions, shootings, vehicle incidents, and more drive this story forward at the same time as they generate more questions for the main characters and the readers as well. While the danger is palpable, fear is much less so because of the faith the characters demonstrate. I recommend this book to romantic suspense fans, both those who prefer secular books and those who prefer Christian fiction. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of Deadly Target from Revell via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Elizabeth Goddard once again combines intricately crafted plot, fast-paced action, nail-biting suspense with lovable characters to create a story that will take you on a wild journey to a surprising and totally unexpected ending. Though it is second book in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone. Erin and Nathan are enjoyable characters but the book is definitely plot-driven. Cold cases, shadowy pasts, and unknown threats loom over Erin and Nathan as they dodge disasters and attempt to untangle the series of events, injuries, and deaths. If you enjoy romantic suspense, this book will hit the spot. I received the book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own.

Reading this is like being on your favorite thrill ride as it leaves you feeling breathless at times and also has you wondering what else can take place before it ends. I absolutely loved the twist as it was different and was the icing on the cake. I enjoyed the characters interaction with a little romance to lighten the mood. Second chance romance is always sweeter especially when written so well. The faith element and prayer is intricately woven in and gives the story added depth. A definite winner in my opinion. This is book two in the Rocky Mountain Courage series but works as a stand-alone if you missed book one like I did although I still have it on my wish list. I recommend for your must read pile. I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

If you are looking for a book of romantic suspense with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and that is hard to put down to return to real life, look no further than Deadly Target. Erin Larson is a forensic psychologist with a deep secret that caused her to turn away from a relationship with Detective Nathan Campbell several years ago. When her mother has a health crisis, Erin returns to her hometown in Montana to help and quickly finds herself involved in helping Nathan solve a mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed this second installment of the Rocky Mountain Courage series (as I did the first) and am looking forward to book three. I received a complimentary copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

Second Chance Romantic Suspense

4 out of 5 stars
bookchick_annie - 3 years ago
Deadly Target is the second book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series. I've had the privilege of reading both books and I enjoyed this book as much as the first. There's secrets, drama, angst, family, reconnections, a second-chance romance, danger, and suspense. There were so many twists and turns, it kept me wondering what would happen next...and I was completely surprised at the underlying cause of everything. I may not have agreed with some of Erin's decisions, but I loved her and Nathan together. I highly recommend this book any anyone who enjoys Christian romantic suspense. Quote: "She (Erin) could stay in his arms forever and hoped he would never let her go." ....... "She listened to the strong, steady beat of his (Nathan's) heart. The security, the stability she'd been searching for had been there waiting for her all along." Many thanks to Revell and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation

RESOLVING THE PAST

4 out of 5 stars
Connywithay - 3 years ago
“Either way, she’d learned well enough that the past, especially a cold-case past, could come back around to bite in unexpected ways,” Erin ponders in Elizabeth Goddard’s novel, Deadly Target. ~ What ~ The second in the Rocky Mountain Courage series, this three-hundred-and-thirty-six-page book is for those who enjoy a contemporary Christian romantic suspense involving protagonists trying to stay safe searching the past while being targeted. Using no profanity, topics of murder and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The ending includes the beginning of the next book in the series, acknowledgments, biography, and advertisements. Set mostly in Montana, Erin Larson finds herself having to move back to her small hometown after being away for five years to keep an eye on her mother. Having been a professional criminal psychologist, she leaves her Seattle job of solving missing person cases and maintains a blog about abducted children. When ex-flame Nathan Campbell, who is now a detective, asks her to help him with an investigation involving his father, she ardently keeps him at an arm’s distance, especially because she had never confided in him about her past. ~Why ~ This quick read has plenty of action and drama as the two main characters have to stay one step ahead of the game in trying to find out who is after them and why they are constantly the focus. I liked how Erin’s emotions explained her lack of self-worth in regard to keeping secrets. The story can be read as a stand-alone, yet it does mention individuals in the prior book in the series. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not like Christian romances will pass on this tale that promotes praying to God while learning to trust others and share past problems. Although no eternal plan of salvation is discussed, it does have sporadic prayers to God. I found some of the scenarios unbelievable and the ending rushed. ~ Wish ~ I wish the repetition of several words and phrases were not so monotonous throughout the chapters. I prefer all pronouns of God capitalized for reverence. ~ Want ~ If you like the next story in a suspenseful Christian series, this one about keeping family secrets to protect loved ones while resolving the past will keep you engaged as you turn the pages with anticipation. Thanks to Revell for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.
