Design Toscano Lions from the Vatican Sculptures

Bought these for a gift which has not been opened yet. They were shipped promptly, packed well and look lovely. The quality looks good.

I recently purchased these amazing lion statues! They truly are a great buy! Perfect addition especially to a traditional style home. Brings out a warm italian style mood to any room! Perfect for any lion lover! They look very expensive. Thank you Design Toscano for such a great product! I will definitely be ordering again!

One type of art that I am particularly fond of is lion statues. When expertly fashioned from a block of stone, these regal yet formidable beasts can be made to portray an impressive variety of dispositions, and express a wide range of emotions: From aggression and ferocity, to submissiveness and even wistful sorrow. The lions of Pope Clement XIII's tomb are some of the most beautiful examples of the latter. The likeness to the originals is quite good. What drew me to these particular lions is their somewhat melancholy demeanor. There's a pensive sadness about the creatures; their slightly pained expressions suggesting that they are in quiet contemplation, which is rather appropriate considering they adorn a tomb. My only criticism is that the more docile-looking right-side lion isn't quite true to the original. The original lion has his eyes almost completely closed, as if slumbering, whereas the Design Toscano sculpt features a lion with eyes open. He does still have a lovely expression, but it's not true to Canova's lion on which it is supposed to be based. Other than that small design oversight, these Vatican lions are beautiful and would make a gorgeous addition to any art lover's space.

I am using this regal pair as bookends, they are an absolute majestic replica and for some reason bring about a peaceful feel to their surroundings. I love them.

Like these a lot, they are very well made and stone finish looks good. Nice & lightweight. They're going on a pediment up high so they will look like the real deal. Great value for the price.

The lions are currently on my mantle . I would love to have them in a bigger size. They are made well and have realistic detailing.

This pair of lions is very well made and will certainly stand up to weather of all types. They have been on my front porch wall for quite awhile and look the same as when I first displayed them. Although they appear to be made of some heavy material, they are actually quite light and easily moved but very sturdy.

These two guys are pretty awesome. I really like the classy detail, It is an inexpensive way to add a little 1700 1800 art to your home.
