About the Author



Mahogany L. Browne is a writer, an organizer, and an educator. She is the author of several poetry collections for adults, including Kissing Caskets and #Dear Twitter. Her books for children and teenagers include Black Girl Magic and Woke Baby, the companion book to Woke. She is the artistic director of Urban Word NYC and has received literary fellowships from Agnes Gund, AIR Serenbe, Cave Canem, Poets House, and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. Elizabeth Acevedo is the New York Times-bestselling author of The Poet X and With the Fire On High. She is a winner of the National Book Award for Young People's Literature, the Michael L. Printz Award, the Pura Belpré Award, the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, and the Walter Dean Myers Award for Outstanding Children's Literature. She is a National Poetry Slam champion and holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of Maryland. She lives in Washington, DC, with her partner. acevedowrites.com

Olivia Gatwood has received international recognition for her poetry, performances, and work as an educator in sexual assault prevention and recovery. She is the author of the poetry chapbook New American Best Friend and has had her work featured on MTV, HBO, and BBC, among others.
