Q: Can the user slide him or herself? Or do you need a second person to slide the seat?

A: Yes the user can slide on their own. To move seat, pull the red seat positioning lever located under the seat away from the frame and slide seat until it clicks into place. Note: there are two (2) positions where seat will be secured to frame, one on the left side and one on the right side.

My only problem is the size of the chair. If I had the space for it the large size is a great safety feature. The chair is very deep. So it's more my issue then the chair. I would recommend it. Just make sure you have the space.

Service from Target was excellent. Arrived as promised. Overall this item is much better than having my mother climb over and into the tub. It definitely helps with the bathing experience for the elderly and their caregivers. It was easy to assemble and the leg height is adjustable and the legs fold so that it can be stored easily. My one main complaint is the location of latch to slide her into the tub. It may be a convenient location if the patient is right handed and can maneuver the sliding seat by themselves, BUT if you are trying to slide the person over, it is located in a very awkward location (toward the inside of the tub under the seat). I had to literally get into the tub, reach down and slide her over. This could be something that DRIVE MEDICAL considers for future designs. I would still recommend this bench for the cost, convenience, works very well and is well constructed. (Sturdy and able to support a grown person). Compared to more costly items, it is a good buy.

Arrived in a timely manner. Little assembly required. Sturdy. Mom liked the seat moving instead of her manually switching seats as with other transfer benches. The legs have adequate adjustment capabilities. I like that I can fold it and store in a closet as it is used in a shared bathroom. Other than a walk-in tub, I believe this appliance is the next best alternative to sponge bathing.

This makes it so much easier to get in and out of the tub. I do wish, however, there was another way to be sure the shower curtain is more "snug". Had some trouble with water leaking on the bath mat.
