Description

Book Synopsis

Bram Stoker spent the first seven years of his life confined to his home because of illness. His only entertainment was the dark Irish legends his mother told him. It would not be surprising if these chronicles woven with supernatural elements generated the breeding ground that led Stoker to become one of the greatest authors of Gothic horror. For a long time, "Dracula's Guest" was considered a first chapter removed from Dracula, Stoker's capital work, although the study of the author's notes from the seventies discarded this idea and gave rise to other theories. Be that as it may, the story, which operates independently, saw the light of day in 1914, two years after the death of the Irish writer, as part of a compilation of his best stories. Brought together again in this edition, these eight jewels of the genre demonstrate Bram Stoker's mastery in developing chilling fictions that will test the limits of our fear.

About the Author

Bram Stoker was born on November 8, 1847 in Clontarf), today a neighborhood of Dublin, (Ireland), where he studied. Son of a local government official. Bedridden as a result of an illness until he was eight years old, the horror stories his mother told him during his long convalescence would be decisive when, with the passage of time, he was ready to pick up the pen. He studied mathematics at Trinity College and was employed in the local administration like his father. The performance in 1871 of a play by the Alsatians Emile Erckmann and Alexandre Chatrian - authors of "Hugo the Wolf and Other Tales of Terror" - led to Stoker's first collaboration in the press. He was a theatre critic for ten years, until he left Ireland in 1876 as secretary and manager of the English actor Sir Henry Irving, with whom he directed the Lyceum Theatre in London. They were partners until the actor's death in 1905. Stoker was the author of numerous books, including Personal Memoirs of Henry Irving (1906) and Dracula (1897), inventor of the Transylvanian vampire who has inspired many films. The legend of the vampire already existed in several subcultures, however, it was never as well told as in the case of Stoker's Dracula. The story is developed from the letters that the characters send to each other. Dracula's fame ignores his other ten novels, among which are such successful titles as "The Lady with the Shroud" (1909) Bram Stoker died poor and forgotten in London on April 20, 1912.

Enrique Corominas is an illustrator and cartoonist. In 1986 he won the national comic prize "Zone 84". Since then he has published his comics in numerous magazines and albums in the United States, France, Italy and Spain. He has also illustrated and designed numerous book covers for publishers such as Planeta, Timun Mas, RBA, Minotauro or SM.
