About the Book
"Smart, warm, uplifting, the story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes the only way to survive is to open her heart. Meet Eleanor Oliphant: she struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. That, combined with her unusual appearance (scarred cheek, tendency to wear the same clothes year in, year out), means that Eleanor has become a creature of habit (to say the least) and a bit of a loner. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy. But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kind of friends who rescue each other from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond's big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one"--Book Synopsis

Sorry but this book isn't good at all. I forced myself to keep reading it in hopes that it would get better but it never did.

Based on the bright cover and cute title, I thought I was in for a lighthearted, humorous, romance. Nope. It is quite dark, I actually was a little scared reading right before bed when I first started it (it’s not “spooky” but there’s an evil character). It touches on heavy subjects like depression, alcoholism, & abuse. It is not descriptive or gory about it, but they’re relevant to the story. After I readjusted my expectations, I really enjoyed the characters and the writing, and finished it in 3 days. It’s not all dark and does have very funny and sweet moments, and a nice ending. Eleanor is a weirdo with a very dark and sad past that haunts her, but you grow to love her. I would recommend this book, but just know what you’re getting into.

Been quite disappointed w/the books I’ve purchased and read that are listed as Reese’s recommended reads. Sadly this book was another let down of hers.

This has got to be my favorite book of all time! Eleanor Oliphant is a witty yet somehow dull character and I was completely captured by this story. I LOVE this book!

This book was a little hard for me to get into. The characters are really interesting and I loved their development throughout the novel. I would recommend this to more mature readers, but not necessarily new or young adults
Loved this!

Yes, this book is dark. Her history is dark. but I did love how descriptive the author was and how you could almost image being her. I really enjoyed this.

I gave this a 1 to catch your attention. This book needs a Trigger Warning sticker. The reviews and description of this book are misleading. This book is a good read. But beware, it’s dark. It gets very dark. I wish I had been aware that it was dark beforehand. One part made me very upset. If I had just been aware that this isn’t a happy sunny book I would have enjoyed it more.

You cannot help but just fall in love with the main character! The book starts off a little slow but then just captures you. Truly memorable characters that will stay with you long after

I'm sorry to say this because I don't think I've ever left a bad review. This book was a no for me. Normally when I start a book no matter what I finish it because that's just how I am. I can set a book down and remember right where I stopped and with this I would have no idea. I had a hard time remembering anything that was being said because I just could not get into this book. It was just reading a bunch of words for me at one point. First off, the main character is rude, and in my opinion negative and depressing. I get that she's been through things but she just made the chapters that much more longer because she was so boring. I didn't care for her or Raymond but the only person I cared for was the older man named Sammy. What's odd for me was that I had a hard time talking myself into reading another chapter but I was hopeful that the storyline would get better and I'd start liking what I was reading. Typically if the book is good I will read it in 1-2 days. I don't have an issue with getting through books. I got half way through this and just threw my hands up. I could not finish it. I must be reading something different then all these five star reviews.

The cover of this book is incredibly misleading. This is a dark story about a woman recovering from severe childhood abuse, there is nothing funny or uplifting about it. I would not have bought it if I had known what it was really about. I want to give others a heads up that this book is heartbreaking and difficult to read at times.

Possible the worst book I’ve ever read. I’m shocked with how popular this book is; I just couldn’t connect to the main character at all, her personality is hard to swallow, and there are very dark parts of this book. I didn’t once find anything funny or humorous as claimed.
So funny

I'm almost done with this book and it is one of the best reads in a while - and I read a lot of a good books! The writing is superb and humorous in a pretty novel way that you don't come across very much. Everyone can identify a bit with Eleanor Oliphant, I find myself chuckling over this book constantly and it puts me in a good mood. I may read it again, something I don't usually do.
