-The story of a teenage girl who's literally allergic to the outside world. When a new family moves in next door, she begins a complicated romance that challenges everything she's ever known. The narrative unfolds via vignettes, diary entries, texts, charts, lists, illustrations, and more---Book Synopsis
Risk everything . . . for love with this #1 New York Times bestseller. What if you couldn't touch anything in the outside world? Never breathe in the fresh air, feel the sun warm your face . . . or kiss the boy next door? In Everything, Everything, Maddy is a girl who's literally allergic to the outside world, and Olly is the boy who moves in next door . . . and becomes the greatest risk she's ever taken. My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I'm allergic to the world. I don't leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla. But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He's tall, lean and wearing all black--black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly. Maybe we can't predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It's almost certainly going to be a disaster. Everything, Everything will make you laugh, cry, and feel everything in between. It's an innovative, inspiring, and heartbreakingly romantic debut novel that unfolds via vignettes, diary entries, illustrations, and more. And don't miss Nicola Yoon's The Sun Is Also A Star, the #1 New York Times bestseller in which two teens are brought together just when it seems like the universe is sending them in opposite directions.

Everything, Everything is the story of Madeline Whitter, a young woman struggling to live a normal life with an abnormal medical condition. The book follows her as she meets a boy and has to make difficult decisions. Her health or her heart. Safety or happiness. Family or love. Life, or living. I have never been one to pull any sort of romance novel off the shelf, but this book was genuinely enjoyable. The characters felt original, relatable, and well thought out and I loved the way the book was formatted. The pictures, notes, poems, emails, screenshots, definitions, and diagrams made it feel like I was reading someone’s diary or scrapbook rather than a chunky novel. This was the sort of story you could get invested in, one you could lose track of time reading. The writing was creative and colorful. Nicola Yoon painted a vivid picture filled with symbolism and it was like nothing I have read before. I loved the evolution of the illustrations related to space and how they showed Madeline’s emotional progression and I loved the statement it made about how being alive worth nothing if you can’t feel alive. Now let's talk about the parts of the book that I didn’t like. There were a few characters that felt like a bit of an afterthought, for example, the other nurse and Zach. They were put into the book for a small chapter, and never mentioned again. They did not drive the plot along and barely helped Madeline come to any sort of conclusion or find any answers. It felt like the book would have remained the same without them. Overall, I thought that the book was really good. The end of the book was open-ended. I liked that because it left everything else up for interpretation. There was no sequel to the book, so there is no right or wrong ending to their story, just the one you imagine. I liked that because it made the book seem like its story went on even after the book was over. It may not have been my first choice, but I did enjoy it and I will most likely recommend it to someone who likes this genre or is at all interested in the genre.

I think this book deserves to receive four stars. I think that this book is ideal for young adults and teens that are searching for a great romance novel and a coming of age narrative. The plot is captivating, intriguing, and creative. The storyline is unique, thrilling, and compelling. The book is portrayed from the point of view of a teenage girl named Maddy. She suffers from a rare disease known as SKID. She is allergic and hypersensitive to everything. Anything can set off an allergic reaction that can result in her death. She has lived the majority of her whole life in her house with only her mom and her nurse Carla as her company. Her vital signs are monitored on a regular basis. Before anything can even be in the same room as her, everything she touches must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. Then one day a new family moves into the house right next door. In the family, there is a hot, teenage boy who causes Maddy’s life to change forever. The plot of this novel is about her decision to change her mundane, uninteresting existence, which is the same every day. Throughout the book, there are several plot twists that are both startling and unexpected. The end of the book left you satisfied and didn’t make you feel like you were left hanging, which I appreciate. The author, Nicola Yoon, does an outstanding job at describing the story from the point of view of Maddy. Her descriptions let you feel like you are actually living the same life as Maddy. The descriptions are quite extensive and in-depth. They make you feel like you are living the same life as her and make you forget that you are just the reader. The book uses an extensive amount of sensory details to ensure that the reader has a complete comprehension of Maddy’s story. Whenever I was reading the book, I felt like I was in the book and that I was actually doing everything that Maddy was doing. This is a novel I would suggest to anyone who is interested in love, adventure, and risk-taking.

This is a fabulous story where you feel what the character is really going through. The book has great messages about living your life, taking risks, and forgiveness. There is one inappropriate scene in the book that I wouldn't recommend for anyone younger than 14 to read. Overall this is a very touching book when reading. This book definitely has a world wind of things happening which always keeps the readers on their toes. Might I add one of the reasons I love this book. One of the most important things that this book teaches people is to let go. It teaches you that you don't have to have the perfect grades, be a perfect athlete, or try and have the perfect life. In reality, perfect doesn't exist. When truly understanding this concept of what this is trying to say it is very important. If people were to let go and just live life, they could be a lot happier. When reading this book it helps you truly understand what this main character is going through and how if you had to say goodbye to this world today, what would you be able to say you did? It really changes the way you think and can help you reflect on yourself. Another aspect of this book that I think changes the whole book is how it can be so reliable. Many parts in this book are made for every different situation that a person might be going through, a character from this book might also be going through the same thing you are as well. For all the future readers out there interested in this book, I would recommend going into this book with an open mind. In the beginning, it might not be interesting but if you stick with it you can really understand and get to know the main characters especially in the first few chapters. Love is the main driving force throughout this whole book. Definitely would not recommend this if you aren't into romance novels. This book may be found cringe to some people which is why it didn't get the whole 5 out of 5 on my rating. Personally I think this book does a great job getting you excited about the little things in the two main characters. Since in the beginning you were able to get to know the main characters very well, I think it just makes it 100 times better and makes you get very excited for the main character when things start to get shaken up. Overall this book was a great book and I would definitely read it again!!

I would rate this book 10/10. I loved this book. It helps you understand a different lifestyle that someone could live and makes you feel more grateful for what you have. The main character in this story, Madeline, has a rare disease where she can’t leave her house ever because her body can’t fight off infections and will die if she goes outside. She has a nurse that comes to check on her everyday and she only has a mom. Her mom and her nurse are the only people she has ever seen basically her whole life. A new boy moves in next door and she starts talking to him through the window and also starts emailing and texting him. I really loved following along with this story because you feel so bad for this girl and you can feel her happiness when she develops a friendship with Olly, the boy next door. I would highly recommend this book because the author made the story so captivating and you want to read more and more. I felt so connected to this story and it really changed my perspective on life.
