Q: What is the recommended age for the Mexican train? Are the dominos regulation size dominos?
submitted by Babs - 6 months ago
A: I’m not sure what regulation domino size is, but these are 48mm x 24mm x 6.5mm. Age grade of 4+ is on the package

I’m beyond frustrated with the Family First Domino’s and Mexican Train Game. Advertised as suitable for ages 4+, this game is a complete disappointment, especially if you have older children or adults in the family. It is extremely childish, and honestly the directions for the Mexican Train game are poorly written. There’s no way to make this game feel like a genuine, engaging experience for anyone beyond a toddler. When we opened it on Christmas Day, we thought we were in for a fun family game night. What we got was a game that’s so simplistic and unappealing, it’s hard to imagine anyone over the age of five enjoying it. The lack of depth makes it an absolute chore to play The worst part? Once we realized how disappointing it was, we were unable to return it. So now we’re stuck with a game that’s essentially only suited for very young children, and even then, I’m not sure it’s worth the hassle. Save your money and avoid this game if your family members are older than five. If you are looking for the Mexican train game there are much better options out there.

My kids, 8 and 10, enjoyed playing this game with us during family game night. Instructions were helpful allowing the girls to learn the concept in different levels and then advance up to more complicatied play... I guess it had been some time since I had played since the learning in levels really helpd me as well! Initial level of dominos starts with pictures to make it easy for younger players to understand as they grasp the conccept of the game. This product was given to me in exchange for my honest review.
Great, easy game for kids

This product was given to me in an exchange for a review. I have a 4 and 6 year old, and both kids loved learning how to play dominoes. The quality is great, the instructions were very clear, and we appreciated the different ways to play that worked for everyone. I would definitely recommend this game for anyone looking for fun games to play with all ages!

We have the "adult" version of mexican train and the kids always want to join in game play but it tends to be too difficult for them. This game is perfect! Quality pieces, sturdy packaging, easy for kids to learn. We played with our 9 year old and her 7 and 5 year old cousins and they all caught on quickly. Highly recommend for families or even adults that don't know how to play this game.
Great Game for Learners of all Levels!

I am a second grade teacher and I was given this game for my classroom in exchange for a review. I played this game with my six year old cousin and it was definately a hit! This game provides easy to understand instructions and multiple versions of the game to allow people of all ages to play. This resource will work great in the classroom setting where students can teach themselves to play classic games starting with a beginner difficulty and working up. Will be playing again!

There are only 2 drawbacks to this set: 1) the dominoes only go up to 9, not 12 like the "full" game 1a) this means you can reasonably only play with up to 4 people 2) the blue, central, conjoining hub piece doesn't have a train sound! UGH! 2a) my inner child likes these kinds of features Great packaging. Convenient, sealable bag for the dominoes. Quality feel to the pieces. Vibrant colors. Overall, solid game set!

We were given this game in exchange for a review. I played with my 3yo and almost 5yo and we started with the Picture Dominos, which my oldest said was “too easy” for him but the younger one loved. We moved up to regular Dominoes which was a great challenge for the older kid. Was great exercise for practicing counting/numbers. He really can’t wait to “play it with the trains” when he’s a bit older. Great quality product!

I played this game over and over with my 9 year and a few of his frineds. None of us had played before and had to learn together with the directions provided. They were clear and easy to learn the game objectives. Everyone loved it and the boys continued to play without me after they got the hang of it. Definitley a fun addtion to our game collection. The pieces and pacakge is great quality. I was given this game in exchange for a review.

I received this game in exchange for a review. My 7 and 10 year old loved these games. We had never played Mexican train and they both picked up on it quickly. They also love dominoes because it can be quick or a longer game. The box has a spot to keep the pieces organized and has a black bag you can keep them in too. This would be a fun and easy game to travel with, bring to a friends house or family game nights!
Super fun for ALL

My 4 boys (9-13) and I all LOVED this game! The quality of the pieces is fantastic. The packaging is sturdy so it can hold up to boys putting the pieces away over and over. The only thing I wish was that it had more dominoes! This game was given in exhange for the review, but I am now headed back out to buy another set so we can keep the fun going!

The dominoes with pictures really helped the 4 and 5 year old grandchildren get started. After they got this stage, moving the numbered dots was easy. The older children (7 - 9 years old) already knew how to play but could still join in and feel challenged. I recieved this game in exchange for a review. The only drawback was only four trains. I have five grandchildren and someone always sat out.

I received this product in exchange for a review. I liked that this game offered 3 different levels to play. My 5 year old enjoyed the picture dominoes the best; however, using the classic dominoes and mexican train game to help her with numbers, was a bonus. Overall, fun for kids and parents to play!

I love that I was able to play this game with kids in a few different age ranges. My youngest - 3-5 age range, had a great time playing the picture dominoes to understand the basic concepts of matching. We graduated up to the classic dominoes game with my middle child and then played the full mexican train version (which I honestly hadn't played before) with the oldest. All in all, the versatility and ability of one game box to include the multiple variations to allow all of us to enjoy was awesome. I received this game in exchange for a review, but it was well worth the experience and I'd defintiely recommend if you have kids that are at a few different ability levels.

The quality of the product is so great and we loved the bright colors. My 4 year old caught on very quickly to dominoes. I do wish it had holders for the dominoes to use while playing. I received this product in exchange for an honest review.

We were given this game in exchange for a review. Our family (kids 11yr & 13yr) enjoyed playing Mexican Train for the 1st time. The quality of the pieces (domimnos, train, etc) in game was much better than expected. Instructions were easy to understand and we could quickly play the game after opening the box. The 11yr old was engaged for two-three rounds and the 13yr old liked the game but two rounds was about the limit. We only played 3 rounds but the game does go to 9 rounds. We would play this game again as a family.
Kids loved it!

My family loved this game, both my 2yr old and 10yr old were able to play with us together utilizing the multiple level game play options. The colors are vibrant and my 2yr old could easily identify and match the animals pictures. My 10yr old loved the more challenging game play with the introduction of the trains. Even the box packaging is well organized. This game is versital and fun for the whole family. Would recommend! We received this item in exchange for an honest review.
So much fun!

I recieved this game in exchange for an honest review. I love this game! The colors are beautiful and bright, and the games could continue to be played at any age. Would highly recommend this set for people that are getting their first box of dominoes, as it has everything you need for dominoes and mexican train. It made the weekend so fun!
