Q: does this shredder have an automatic shutoff for in between shredding. or is it a continuous run

A: Hi Kayy. There is a mechanical auto sensor in the middle of the entry which retracts and starts the motor when something is inserted. Once the paper has passed through the entry, the unit will go to stand by until the user inserts another document. Note: The shredder runs briefly after each pass to clear entry. Continuous operation beyond 3-minutes will trigger 40-minute cool down period.

A: Hello, to ensure the longevity and performance of the shredders, we recommend that all cross-cut and micro-cut shredders, regardless of size, be routinely oiled. Hope this helps!

If not oiled, a machine may experience diminished sheet capacity, intrusive noise when shredding and could ultimately stop running. To avoid these problems, we recommend you oil your shredder each time you empty your waste bin.

A: Thank you for the question, PMC. Yes -- you can use either the Fellowes PowerShred Lubricant Sheets item #40155 (works with all cross-cut and micro-cut shredders) or Fellowes PowerShred Lubricant item #35250. We recommend oiling the blades every time the basket is emptied.

Q: Does the unit come with the oil to lubricate the cutters or do you have to order it separate? Can I use a locale substitute like oil for a electric trimmer. What can I use?

A: Hi DaveM58. A sample oil does not come with this model, but Fellowes shredder oil can be purchased from various office supply stores. The reviews say that it overheats and that you shouldn’t buy it. However the instructions say to use it for 3 minutes and then give it a break. If you go over 3 minutes, it’ll forcefully go into cool off mode for 40 minutes. I’ve been following the 3 minute rule and so far it’s still working. I like that this shredder does the job. I had a foot long stack of documents to shred and bought this one to get rid of it and for minimal future use. I’d say purchase it if you don’t shred documents everyday but if you need to shred in bulk, buy something a little more expensive.

When it overheats (which doesn't take long) it stops working till it cools down. I have a huge stack of papers to shred and at this rate it will take all day.

Dies constantly. It cannot handle much shredding. I shred maybe 2 pages at a time or it won’t allow anything else. It’s very finicky.

This is the little engine that could. We are getting ready to move and needed to shred like 5 years worth of filed items and it did awesome. It didn’t have a problem shredding 6+ pieces at a time and if it stopped working right we would feel like we got our money out of it. Sorry to those who got duds but this was awesome purchasefor the price point.
