First Alert PR710E Slim Smoke Detector with Photoelectric Sensor and LED Escape Light

It’s only been 9 months and I already have to replace this. It won’t stop chirping so I had to deactivate it. Don’t waste your money on this!

Lasted only two months before it started chirping. Brought back to Target and they would not honor a return due to being outside of return window. Complete junk and very much a safety hazard for something so important to be so unreliable. Also disappointing that Target would not even offer store credit after selling something defective.

Followed the instructions setting it up and it doesn’t worked tested it and it doesn’t go off which is disappointing for such an important safety device

I have not had a test case yet (thank goodness) but they appear to be operating properly and weekly push button tests have gone without a hitch. I see complaints from some consumers regarding expiration date. I think it's important to note the date on the back of the detector is actually the manufacture date, so mine was only 2 months old at time of purchase. I definitely recommend! I purchased 6 of these smoke detectors to replace the old hardwired alarms in my home. These were extremely easy to install - had them all up within 30 minutes!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My daughter just bought her first house and we installed these smoke detectors in her upstairs and downstairs rooms. They don't stick out like a sore thumb, hardly noticeable. They install close to the ceiling so they look updated. We tested them and they are extremely loud which I am happy about and the light seems to be bright enough should she ever need it in a true emergency. I will definitely be looking into more of these to install in the near future. I would recommend these especially if you have children because the light will help them see to get out.

I added this smoke detector to my laundry room since there was not one wired there. It has a 10-year lithium battery so no need to worry about checking the batteries yearly or having those annoying low battery chirps with 9V battery systems. The LED light is not very bright and is a little disappointing; I guess it would be helpful in an emergency but don't count on it to provide significant illumination to find your way out. It also has an alarm test/silence button to help with those false alarms.

Having been a firefighter for 30 years I can testify to the benefits of having, using, and maintaining quality smoke alarms. What enticed me about this particular was the safety light. My hope is that those that purchase this in the future will be aided by being able to see just enough to assist them exiting their home in the event of a fire. It's an addition that is a long time coming. I have had the opportunity to test under actual smoke conditions, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

It easily detects smoke and I've experienced it's ability not by a fire but my wife's cooking. I would much rather it be a dinner bell than its intended use but like I said it makes me feel safe at night. I love that it has a ten year battery so I'll never have to worry about a dead battery. And the led escape light is certainly also a plus. I strongly recommend having this smoke detector in your home.

It is so frustrating following the recommendation on most other smoke detector , which is too replace the 9v battery every single year. This smoke detector was super easy to install and once you set it you can forget about it and know that your are protected for the next ten years It also has a cool feature which is an escape light that lights the area in the event the power is out and there is an emergency,

It is slim and nice looking so it doesn't look to bad hanging on the wall. We got this just in come cause my wife decided to try and burn some cookies in the kitchen. It went off and worked great. She realized the issue and we were able to air out the house and get the smoke alarm to stop going off. She was upset she burnt the cookie, but was glad that this one was so that it went off and we were able to get them out of the oven.

You can place it anywhere in the house hassle free. The best thing about this product is that it will never run outta battery. I would recommend it to anyone looking to buy a hassle free product to install in your home. It also has the feature on it that has a light on it that will light up once it’s activated to light your path to safety. It will light up a clear path in the dark and smoke. So to be woken up and have to figure out which one it is and nine times out of 10 it was the ones in the stairwells where you had to sit and try to get on a ladder in order to get them changed. it was a huge inconvenience. I love that this has a nice long 10-year life and I don't have to worry about the battery going dead and that's not knowing. It gives us great peace of mind. One of the also really cool features I think is the escape light. I feel like most fires happen at night time and that extra light to help you find safety is really important. It's definitely a tool that you never hoped to need but you always want to have and have that piece of mind that if something were to happen you would know about it as soon as possible.

The smoke detector has a photoelectric sensor that helps to detect slow smoldering fires, like from cigarettes burning in couches or beds. A direct smoke entry system to the smoke sensor allows for less nuisance alarms, such as from cooking smoke when you cook bacon on the stovetop. We all know how smoky that can be sometimes. It has a ten year battery included which is great for when life gets busy, this is one less thing that a person has to worry about changing at regular intervals. It is very easy to install, and you can mount it on any wall or ceiling since it doesn't need to be hardwired in.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought two of these. Within 15 months (at different times) both of them started chirping.... which indicated a low battery or other fault. Tried everything to get them to stop. Finally had to deactivate them using the small switch on the back. Once deactivated, they are useless because they can not be reactivated and must be replaced. Clearly this is a widespread problem since, as of today's date, 41% of other reviewers give it a one-star rating. Avoid this model -- and all First Alert models with sealed (non-replaceable) batteries.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was in the market to get new Smoke Alarms so a few weeks ago I got First Alert one that is 10 year battery life not hardwired and thought it would be great with the Lithium power cell battery plus the design of the alarm has an escape light to support your path to safety now I don’t have hallways in my house and the concept is all one level so I was hoping that it would light a pathway to a room where I was putting it to the door. Now it’s slimmer than my other one that I’m replacing and my other one was hardwired into wall so this is a new concept with just a battery and was hoping the alarm was loud enough that would wake people even fans going. Easy to install on your wall yet remember not to install it to close to the kitchen if you have bedrooms close to the kitchen due to it may set it off . So I have the smoke alarm in place for a few weeks it works great then the what I call chirping starting not sure what is going on with battery or the alarm yet it stops I’m going to have to look into a battery and then take the next steps overall it was great alarm if the battery is the issue and nothing else.

I really love the updated features and the security light is just wonderful to have when you have small children. I appreciate the fact that if we have a fire my children will now have a light to get down the hall and not scramble around trying to turn on their phone or a wall light that might not work. First Alert is a brand that I have purchased since I found out I was pregnant with my first child. I have never been disappointed with any product that I have purchased for safety for my home. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been wanting to put a smoke detector in our basement for some time, and this was the perfect opportunity. We have three First Alert fire extinguishers in the house that we (thankfully) have not had to use, and I carry one in my car which I have used twice (not the same one and not on my car). My wife has a history with family dying in house fires, and I was more than remiss for not installing this sooner, although I did install a First Alert carbon monoxide sensor. Installation took me less that 15 minutes, and that includes hauling my tools from the garage to the basement and back. I highly recommend First Alert.
