I have had one of these pens for years and really like the ease in using it. So, when my granddaughter moved into her first apartment, it was one of the first gifts I gave her. Because she works at a restaurant and has seen these used by the chefs, she was delighted when she opened this gift. Well worth the money, especially since the price hasn't changed! When my other granddaughter moves into her apartment/house, she will also receive this from me.

I had used this style Thermapen for many years, with great success. I used it for chicken, fish, bread. I calibrated this new pen in boiling water and the temperature read 212. But -- this new pen had failed me utterly. When I slid the probe lengthwise into a chicken breast, the temperature reading dropped 20 degrees from using the point. Two pieces of chicken, the same size and thickness, cooking in the same pan, read temperatures 20 degrees off. When I set the thermometer down to flip the chicken, it shut off. I had to close it, open it, begin again. I may return this expensive tool but fear the cost of mailing it back will be prohibitive. I'll be in touch !

I have been a good baker for many years but using this thermometer has been a game changer. I never remove my bread from the oven before it's done. I don't have to try to decide if the bread sounds hollow when I tap the bottom and it's also nice to be able to check the temp while the bread is still in the pan.

Works perfectly. However, after a few uses it needs a new battery. Replacing the batteries are difficult.
