Between this and a normal comforter (which does not necessitate a duvet cover), I definitely prefer this. The material is very nice, and it is very warm in the cold winter temperatures of student housing (~55°F at furthest distance from the central heating unit). The feathers are a pretty sharp, and do occasionally poke through and scrape you, with is pretty annoying. Be warned: you will need to take it to a laundromat if you don't have a front-loading washer (with a large enough drum).

I read all the reviews and still decided that I wanted to see if I would like the insert myself. I will say it's extremely thick and fluffy. However, the feathers poke you a lot and it's extremely heavy and hot and when it gets hot, it has a weird smell to it. I slept with it for one night and I am returning it.

Listen to every review that states the feathers poke you because they do. I wanted to love this down comforter because it is warm, but it is noisy/crunchy. You get used to it, but what I can’t get used to is the feathers poking me all night. I even have a duvet cover over my duvet. I will be purchasing a different one.

It looks great in a duvet cover. However, it is so hot. I live in WI and would end up taking this off every night bc it was so hot/heavy. It is also really loud and the feathers started to poke out as I used it.

Aside from having a loud, crunchy sound anytime it moves the biggest issue is that the feathers are coming out everywhere. They poke through the comforter itself as well as the seams. When you run your hand over it you can feel where they’re pricking through the fabric.

If you’ve ever wondered what it sounds like to sleep in a bag of Frosted Flakes then buy this duvet. If I could upload a video with sound I would. It’s awful. Wish I had listened to the negative reviews but I thought people were just being overly picky- They’re not. It’s noisy trash.

I don’t understand how this is “all season”. It weighs a million pounds, making it really hard to handle and put in new duvet cover and my husband is sleeping on the couch because it is so hot! And it’s winter in Oregon!
