This yoga mat is praised for its beautiful design and comfortable thickness, making it ideal for various exercises, including yoga and HIIT workouts. Guests appreciate its cushioning and grip, although some have noted issues with slipperiness when sweaty. The mat's durability is generally well-received, but there are concerns about the design's longevity, as the metallic print may wear off over time. This is a great mat. I love the look and feel, and was happy it did not slip during my practice. But WOW! What a strong smell! I took it out of the packaging and tried to air it out for a few days before using it, but it still has a very strong odor.
Mat shedding

Good grip and decent cushion. However, I've only had the mat for 3 months and it sheds on me when I roll it up.

This yoga mat is very good in quality and doesn't slip at all while you are on it. Just what I wanted for yoga.

I got the green one with the tree. I think the design is cute. The mat doesn't move, even when I'm doing my HIIT workout. It doesn't shred like my other mat I had. It also gives a nice amount of cushion.
The best mat I've ever purchased

Definitely not non-stick. Attempted to use it for one practice and found myself fighting the splits and falling out of poses as my hands and feet were slipping constantly. Not the kind of workout I was looking for. Usually my go to brand. Mat is sadly being returned.

We are sorry to hear this and recommend wiping the mat down prior to use with 50/50 solution of water and vinegar. This will remove any ink residue and increase the grip. Please allow 24 hours to air dry.

This and that has a lot of cushioning and it’s very soft. It is good for yoga and has a grip on it.

After unfurling the May it had a very strong chemical smell that did not go away after more than 3 days airing out. The smell was so strong and noxious that practicing on the mat was impossible and I returned it. I was floored to realize this company doesn't offer free returns like 99% of other online retailers. Even worse, the mat was returned more than 2 weeks ago and I still have not received a refund after having to pay $15 postage to send it back. I will never shop here again. Total disappointment. *review sourced from Gaiam

The 6mm thickness is good for my knees. I have done several exercises on the mat comfortably and without slipping
Bronze Paint on Feet

There is a reason this is on sale. The paint used to make the bronze medallion rubs off on everything. Do not buy this unless you want a smudged mat and bronze paint on your feet.

Love this mat after trying it out in yoga class. The mat does, as advertised, feel sticky or tacky to the touch such that you wonder if a residue is left on your hands and feet (there is not). The stickiness helps to maintain your yoga postures such as downward dog, warrior and the plank. Additionally, the 6mm thickness (as opposed to the 4mm) provides cushioning for knees and spine. I wasn't sure about the bright gold design but actually enjoyed it while doing the postures....gives you something pretty to look at!

My Jade Harmony mat started shedding so I needed a new one. Bought this because this is cheap and pretty, and that is exactly what you get. My knees are always in pain when I am in poses that put weight on my knees. I looked into some stats - both mats are 68 inches in length and 24 inches wide, the Jade Harmony is 4.7mm at 5lbs, while this Gaiam mat is 6mm at 3.75lbs. Seems to me the Gaiam mat just does not have the right density (enough material) to actually protect you. Think cotton candy (Gaiam) vs marshmallow (Jade). Additionally, this mat has no grip. Starting with my first down dog (so no sweat yet), I can feel my hands and feet slipping as I hold the position. Sure, there are ways around my complaints - double fold the mat for more cushion on my knees and use a towel for my practice. But do you really want to stop your flow to fold the mat? Or buy another towel? My previous mat did not need either one. Also not sure what the ""lifetime guarantee"" entails. I am three months into the mat (I did not associate the knee pain to the mat in the beginning, thought I was out of shape), when I reached out to regarding how unhappy with the quality mat, they said take it to your retailer, which, the retailer has nothing to do with the quality of the product itself. So I am unsure what they are guarantying. I find that this ""premium"" mat would only be suitable for someone brand new to yoga and not sure if you will stick with it (but there are cheaper options that probably perform similarly if you are in that situation). I have never had any previous knee injury, so I would recommend you look for something else if you know you have sensitive knee. If you are already committed and practice multiple times a week, find something better. *review sourced from Gaiam
Print comes off easily

The print is more bronze than gold and it runs off with sweat. It’s a thicker mat, which I like but I’m bummed about the print transferring off.

I’ve had this yoga mat for 8 months now and absolutely love it!! Great design with perfect length and width. I’m 5’3 and the length works well for me. It still has great cushion and grip to it after 8 months. I go to yoga 1-2x weekly. Would highly recommend. Also if you do hot yoga, would definitely recommend buying a yoga mat towel.

This is rather slippery. I do not have particularly sweaty hands but notice a loss of grip when my hands are even slightly moist. Other than that it looks nice.
1 reply from Gaiam Team team - 3 years ago
Grip is a very personal preference, and can vary based on how much you sweat during practice. We do offer textures such as dry grip and insta-grip for a non-slip surface even during hot yoga.
