Q: If these were to get slightly damp, before planting. Would the material still hold together or break down?
submitted by greenideas - 5 years ago
A: The 3-1/2” Square Biodegradable Pots don’t start breaking down until they have been planted in the soil. Getting them wet will not make them fall apart.

Perfect size and shape!

I'm so surprised that so many seed starting pots are round, because these square ones are so much more space efficient. I'm able to fit more on a tray and more securely. With the round ones, one is bound to tip over whenever I have to move the tray to water, but these always stay in place.

I order these pots as well as the smaller ones every year. They're both easily water-permeable and sturdy; they'll keep their shape through the weeks of germination, growth, and hardening off and then break down easily once in the soul. I absolutely love them.
Very Handy

I like these very much ~ they are easy to handle and to sit side-by-side in a tray. Plenty of room for those babies that have to be kept inside a bit longer like Tomatoes and Peppers!

These have a very bad smell which stings the nose. The smell has not gone away even after having for almost 3 weeks now.

We use these pots every year to start our seeds. They hold up well, are a good size, but still allow baby roots to grow through.

These are so low maintenance. Instead of a succession of transplant containers, I begin 2-4 seeds in these. After that I can thin, move to pots, or transplant into the garden. Affordable, eco friendly, and do well wicking water up from a tray. * Seen in the picture with the Oslo Grow light trays, they are the BEST. I just put water in the bottom and the bio pots take up the water. Encourages deep root growth!

Great pots for starting seeds indoors, especially for plants that need a little space of their own before long (tomatoes, beans). Sturdy, biodegradable, and conveniently sized/ shaped.

I always use these for seeds that don't like to be transplanted that I start indoors and my seedlings thrive in them. They break down faster once planted than other brands. I also like the size of these, there's plenty of room for strong roots to develop.
Good Size but smells

Great size and biodegradable perfect but boy do these stink when you add moistened seed starter - smelled like something was on fire, quite odd.

I start seedlings under the grow light. When they are a certain size, I put them in these pots to let them get bigger prior to planting. They go right into the ground with the plant.

Absolutely love these and would order them again. They are sturdy and stand up to multiple waterings, but are also composting very well now that we have repotted the plants.
Great transitional pot for seedling starts

We replanted our seedlings in these as the last step before we plant them in the beds outdoors. These are much better than coconut coir pots or something similar-- they are sturdy enough to hold up on our trays in the greenhouse, but break down far better than the coir pots once in the beds. The "biodegradable" coir pots don't break down quickly and we've found they don't really allow roots to penetrate the pot wall, which constrains growth.
Great way to share seedlings!

I use these to "pot up" seedlings that I plan to give away or that don't like having their roots disturbed. #sweepstakes

I use these to "pot up" seedlings, particularly ones I plan to share with others and plants that don't like to have their roots disturbed (tear away whatever comes off easy and plant the rest of the pot with the plant)

I transplanted some cucumber starts into these pots a week ago. I was worried that they may not survive the transplant from the seedling tray but they are all doing great and loving their larger pots. I am ordering more!
