The Garmin Vivofit Jr 3 is designed for kids, offering features like step tracking, chore management, and rewards that encourage active lifestyles. Many guests appreciate its ease of use and the fun it brings to daily activities. However, the watch's dim display has been a common concern, making it difficult for children to read the time in low light. Overall, it serves as a great motivational tool for kids, but improvements in visibility would enhance the experience.

Faulty Battery which has leaked battery acid
1 out of 5 stars

Bought one in September as a Christmas present for my daughter. Put away and opened on Christmas Day. Started off great and Miss 8 was having great fun trying to beat her dad’s step count until day 5. On waking up the screen was frozen. A few attempts at pressing the button did nothing. After a while the watch face changed to the calendar icon. A press of the button brought up the connect icon and code. Figuring the battery had somehow died already I opened the device up to find the battery had leaked acid all through the device, causing visible damage to the internal surfaces of the device. Removed the battery and cleaned the acid out. Replaced battery but device is now just repeating the same as at the start of day 5. Will be returning as soon as we return from holiday. Garmin really need to reconsider the replaceable battery for this device. Would hope this is an isolated incident though.

Display of this watch is too small and very dark. Without back light it’s impossible to see the hour. After few hours of using we decided to send it back.

Wanted to love this watch, setup was extremely easy, love the way it was made, super comfortable on my daughter but the watch screen is not really visible in dim or dark lights. Was great in bright lights but during the night it was extremely hard to see the time.

This is the 2nd Garmin jr 3 watch we have purchased. One for our 1st child, 3 years ago and now one for our 2nd child. Holds up well and kids love telling us who walked the most steps each day.

Like the step tracking but that’s really all it does! The rest is controlled on your phone app. Just an expensive pedometer.

Screen falls out
2 out of 5 stars
Kait - 7 months ago
My son LOVED this, but six months after getting it, the screen fell out. I thought it was a fluke and was going to buy him a new one, but after reading the reviews, it clearly happens a lot.
1 reply from GarminProductExpert team - 5 months ago
Thank you for the review, Kait! No need to buy a new one. Our watches come with a 1-year warranty. Just contact Garmin's support team to work out an arrangement for a replacement. As an aside, if the module itself slipped out of the band, that may simply mean the band has gotten a bit stretched out OR is strapped on too tight. If the issue is something else, our support team should get you sorted out.

My 7 year old really enjoyed this, she liked tracking her steps and telling the time. Unfortunately, after less than 5 months, the face fell out and she's very upset. Something made for young children should hold up better.

My kiddo wanted a smart watch and this fits the bill perfectly. She can track steps see the time and get rewards for goals I can set up for her in the parent app. It’s waterproof so she can swim bathe etc I love the buckle band so it fits as needed.

My daughter initially liked it, but then started complaining about the screen being so dark she couldn't see anything. I researched and found out that is how it was supposed to be, so to avoid her frustrations, we returned it. The screen is just too small to be so dark. Its very hard to see anything. Otherwise it was simple to set up and connect to the app.

I did a fair bit of research on what watch/tracker was best for an 8 year old. This one seemed to be consistently on top of people’s lists. As this was a Christmas gift, we’re now one month into owning and my son couldn’t love it more. He said this is his favorite gift by far. The watch was ready to and easy to use straight out of the box. The app setup was easy and synching the watch to the app takes no time at all. He enjoys knowing the time, checking his steps and meeting his goals. I appreciate being able to see his sleep patterns and set chores and bedtimes for him.

I bought this watch for my 7 year old daughter as a Christmas gift. She loves the watch’s app that provides awards for activity and doing chores. She’s becoming aware of her daily activity in a healthy way. I’m happy to see her finally doing her chores. My only complaint is how dark the screen is. I have to use a flashlight to view. My daughter agrees is the worst part of the watch. I would consider other options before buying this model. Garmin needs to figure out a way to make the display brighter.

My 6 year old got this as a Christmas gift because he loves to watch me track my fitness on my gaming watch. It’s such a big hit. He barely takes it off. He gets so excited to reach his goals each day. Great product. Easy to use and lots of fun.

Bought two for both my children, issues so far: turned off alarms in chores vis the app but alarms continue to go off even after multiple syncs with the watch, chore list does not show in the watch which isn't helpful when teaching independence for the kids to know why the alarm is going off and for what chore. Screen is too dark as well. Next time I will purchase an alternative smart watch! For the price I don't feel the watches are worth it!
