Gevalia House Blend Medium Roast Ground Coffee - 12oz

Many years ago, I purchased Gevalia coffee because I remember as teen my Mom had the Gevalia canister and subscribed to their mail-delivery coffee. It wad great tasting coffee back in the day. So, about ten years ago, I, too, started buying it, since our local store had it. But then my store stopped carrying the whole bean, and the ground version was too fine for a Chemex or pour-over coffee process, so I stopped buying it. A few weeks ago, I saw Target had Gevalia, and decided to try a bag. OMG. What did they do to this coffee? I tried brewing it several different ways (Hario pour-over, automatic drip, Chemex) and it was horribly bitter every time. I even adjusted the water temperature and brew time (reducing both) to try to compensate for the powdered-sugar texture grind of the coffee. Nothing worked. I ended up mixing what was left with another coffee, which made it tolerable. Still, I could taste the bitterness. I don't know if they are using a cheaper bean or mixing fillers in with their beans, but it is God-awful now. I won't be buying another bag.

I’ve been buying Gevalia for 30+ years back to the days when they used to advertise in magazines and sell it mail order. I’ve tried other brands including other premium brands like the Italian brand, illy, but I always find myself going back to Gevalia. It is very full bodied owing to the fine grind, but very smooth at the same time. It fills the house with a delicious aroma when it’s brewed too. I like to blend it with equal parts of Target’s Caramel Macchiato three heaping scoops of each to 2 3/4 cups of water that produces a strong espresso strength brew that I add to hot milk and half and half. It’s insanely good!! (If I do say so myself ;). But every one of my guests that have had it basically swoon over it too! It’s pretty much the best home brewed coffee you can get, it’s very reasonably priced in relation to how good it is, and I hope it’s available forever.

Tastes like the overcooked coffee that would be offered for free somewhere. Has the aroma of decaf. Too finely ground. Target app suggested this as a backup and they have no business calling it “medium-dark” when dark is mentioned nowhere on the packaging.

My favorite to make drip coffee at home. It has the right balance between bitterness and flavor. Rich aroma, not heavy, smooth and delicate. As for the price, I get it on sale, so good value for money.

So far this is my go-to coffee. It smells amazing as soon as you open the bag, and the grounds are the right size for my expresso machine

I have been using Gevalia house blend for 23 yrs... still using the free coffee maker I got from my first order. The formula has changed about a month ago, it tastes like any other cheaper brand, very bitter, almost a course grind and the scent is offensive. I don't mind paying more for what I want, but when what I want is not what I'm getting,.. I'm very very disappointed 😔

Gevalia House Blend is really the best bagged coffee to use if you HAVE to use a coffee maker. It is less acidic than other pre-ground blends, has a fuller body, and tastes better in this preparation. It also holds up well to cream and flavored creamers. If you are not using a French press or pour over, spend the extra few bucks for this brand and thank me later!

Gevalia truly is the best coffee brand you can buy in the store. The flavors are elevated and they taste is always smooth. The House Blend is great black. It’s smooth, balanced, and rich. It’s more expensive than others but worth it.

While shopping for coffee, I saw this and thought I'd try something different! If you don't like very strong coffee, then I recommend this for you to try! It has a very nice, smooth, medium roast blend! I'm enjoying every cup, and have about enough left for 2 more full pots to make!

I did not care for Gevalia house blend medium roast coffee. It just has to strong a flavor for me even with extra creamer I did not like it.

For some reason this coffee has a bit of a better note but also a background of almost burnt chocolate which pairs nicely if you add cream. I’ve been drinking this one for a week now and every time I open the bag it’s like heaven…. Maybe I have a coffee addiction

This is my favorite ground coffee you can get just about anywhere. The flavoring of this coffee is perfect for the morning. It is a little bit pricy but it is worth it in my opinion! Is not bitter compared to other brands.

I’m a big coffee drinker. This one wasn’t my favorite. I usually drink dark/medium roast and just plain. No cream, no sugar. But, this one didn’t have the normal coffee after taste. Just not for me.
