Of course "Gone With the Wind" is a classic for a reason. It's a wonderful book and I hope that my niece will enjoy it when I give it to her for her 12th birthday. The target copy came in perfect condition and I was very pleased with the look and feel of this hardcover edition.

This novel “Gone With the Wind” by Margaret Mitchell is about the drama of the Civil War. The main character of this novel is Scarlett O’Hara. She is a spoiled, ruthless daughter of a wealthy plantation owner. Scarlett arrives at a young womanhood just when the Civil War was sweeping away the life for which her upbringing has prepared her. She returns to the plantation after the fall of Atlanta. In the process of everything that is happening she hardens. Scarlett has neared starvation and she made a vow that it will never happen again. Charles proposes to Scarlett and she agrees to marry him, but she was hoping that it would hurt Ashley the one she loved. Scarlett and Charles get married, and then he joins the army and dies of measles. Scarlett finds out that she is pregnant. She gives birth to a boy named Wade. She gets bored and unhappy, so she takes a trip with Ashley’s wife Melanie and her aunt to Atlanta. As the war progresses, food and clothing run scarce in Atlanta. Scarlett and Melanie fear for Ashley’s safety. After the bloody battle of the Gettysburg, Ashley is captured and is sent to prison, and the Yankee army begins to destroy Atlanta. Scarlett wants to return home to Tara. When Scarlett returns home she finds out that the Yankee army has looted the plantation, and because of that they left no food or cotton. Scarlett went hungry and she vows to never go hungry again. Scarlett then takes charge of rebuilding Tara. Word comes that Ashley is free and is on his way home. A one-legged homeless Confederate named Will Benteen, stays to help Scarlett with the plantation. The current government official has raised the taxes on Tara. Will Scarlett do anything in her power to save Tara?
